Stanley and Zero are walking to Big thumb during the hottest part of the day. Stanley had an empty canteen with a dry throat and zero experienced another attack from the sploosh side effects. Both of them would try to ignore the far distance to Big Thumb. Zero was struggling a lot but insisted Stanley to give him words to spell so that it could distract him from the pain. Stanley was worried that he would die without his parents knowing. A while later they approached the cliffs of the mountain and started to climb on the ledges, holding the ruts on the side. Their bodies were weak but managed to boost each other over ledges. Zero made a plan to pull Stanley up with a shovel and a sack which worked. Stanley noticed that Zero had cuts on his arm. Both boys’ continued the climb until they reached the flat surface on the top, with the sun shining brightly. They were soon walking among the shadows of the thumb.
