One hundred and ten years ago, Green lake was the largest lake in Texas. Peach trees grew along the lake. There was a town picnic once a year, where prizes were awarded for the best peach pie and jam. Katherine Barlow won every year for her spice peaches. Kathrine made the best peach spice and peach based foods. She was a wonderful teacher that taught adults and children. The young men only went to the class to see her and did not care about their education. Charles Walker, also known as Trout, was a really rich man, he had a serious foot fungus that couldn't be cured. He was the son of the richest man in the country. He was very interested in Miss Katherine and thought she was pretty. Many people expected them to get married. His family owned a majority of the peach trees on the eastern side of the lake. He was a loud and unintelligent student who seemed proud of his stupidity, thus, never paying attention in class, but many men lacked education. He’d just gotten a horrid new boat which ruined the lake by spewing black smoke. He had gotten everything he’d wanted his whole life, except for Miss Katherine’s hand in marriage.
