Dear Summerside Eagle Families,
Fall weather is here and it is an excellent time to settle into a good book while sitting outside together! Did you know your child heads to our school library every week with their language arts teacher? We continue to prioritize having books in students' hands for your child to read. Sitting and reading with your child, discussing what they are reading, and making connections to the text are all ways to help your child on a DAILY basis (20 minutes a day is recommended) to become an independent reader and are important ways we partner in making sure every child succeeds! We also encourage all families to take advantage of our incredible community resource, our Clermont County Public Libraries. There are so many free programs to explore, including one linked below, as the world is truly at their hands when they can check out a book to enjoy!
Picture day was Thursday. If you did not place an order, no worries, all students were pictured! You can still send in money on Monday or complete an order online. See last week's update for more information.
Thank you to those who were able to join us at the WC Town Hall Meeting on Thursday evening! See below to register to attend our October opportunity. The data and conversations are imperative to helping shape our next chapter in WC and your voice at the table matters!
We wrapped up an exciting week at Summerside celebrating our Wolf Pack as we marched in the WCHS Homecoming parade and were there to celebrate a time-honored tradition in WC in bringing back the bell alumni celebration! Our West Clermont community is an exciting place to be for sure!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Courtney & Ms. Lowe
Shout out to all of our Eagles who came to march in the parade on Friday, 9/23! There were many more than pictured here as they joined as cheerleaders, football players, and other community organizations! It was such a fun night filled with candy, smiles, and WC Pride!
We encourage all families to partner with their child's teacher during the fall conferences.
PTO is hosting a book fair during conferences on 10/13. We encourage you to celebrate your child's hard work with a special trip to the book fair that evening as all are welcome, even if your conference night is scheduled the week before. See look for an opportunity to volunteer at the book fair soon!
Please join us for a parent/student information night about our upcoming camp experience on Monday, Oct. 3rd at 6:30 in the Summerside cafeteria.
Camp Dates: Wednesday, November 3 - Friday, November 5
We encourage all fifth graders to attend. PTO will support with scholarships as needed as we do not want cost to be a deterrent for any family.
Summerside Stop & Think Insight
At Summerside, we use Stop and Think forms as a way for students to reset when upset, frustrated, or struggling to follow Eagle Expectations in class. If your child is unable to reset using the classroom Stop and Think procedure, (s)he will be re-directed to take a break in a neighboring classroom in order to be ready to rejoin our class activities appropriately. Whenever this occurs, we will alert families, so that you can discuss with your child some ways they might work through these struggles in the future so they can feel in control of their emotions and stay ready to learn.
Thank you for your partnership in helping students grow!
Recess Equipment
Many of our students are bringing extra equipment to use at recess. Unfortunately, bringing in extra items increases the chances of students' personal items being lost or destroyed. Additionally, some students use the equipment at inappropriate times (e.g. throwing a football in the cafeteria or in the bus line). For these reasons, we are discouraging extra items from being brought in. However, grade-level teachers will decide if students will be allowed to bring additional recess equipment to school.
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding!
Samegoal emails
During your child's time at West Clermont, you may receive emails from Samegoal. This software generates educational documents that we utilize to communicate key plans for specific student needs. Not all parents may receive a document from this website, but if you do receive it, please open it, view and sign if indicated. Thank You!
Our students are earning apples for upholding our
Bus riders are earning "busses" to show they are keeping themselves and others safe on the bus.
You can ask your child about ways they take care of themselves, others, and Summerside every day and ways we are noticing and celebrating their efforts every day!

Middle School Start Time Update - 9/16/22
On May 9, 2022, the West Clermont Citizens Advisory Commission (CAC) made a recommendation to the Board of Education to adjust the middle school start time to 8 a.m. Their proposal was based on their extensive research, expert presentations, and student, staff and parent surveys.
In response, over the summer, the Board tasked district leadership with researching the feasibility of changing the middle school start time. At the September 12 Board of Education meeting, Mr. Chuck LaFata, the district's Director of Operations, gave an update to the Board. He shared that a professional traffic study is underway and that Petermann Transportation is working on a proposed routing model that closely mirrors our current system but with the adjusted middle school start time. The Operations Team plans to share the findings at the October 12 Board of Education meeting.
As we continue our research and planning, we will keep families and staff up-to-date.
