Dear Summerside Eagle Families,
We came together on Monday afternoon as an entire school to celebrate and review our ways of working together as a learning community. We kicked off our assembly with a review of what it means to be an Eagle. Ask your child to share the Eagle commitment we make each morning after saying the Pledge of Allegiance together and sharing Eagle birthdays on the morning announcements. To be an Eagle means, "Effort, Attitude, and Good choices Lead to Excellence and Success!"
We also reviewed our Positive Behaviors Interventions and Supports (PBIS Model) during our assembly, talking about ways we recognize students who are doing an outstanding job taking care of themselves, others, and Summerside. You may have heard your child talking about Eagle Eyes which serve as a way to recognize classroom community efforts to follow our Eagle Expectations. Once a homeroom earns 10 Eagle Eyes, they can turn it into a Super Golden Eagle Eye which will lead to a whole building celebration, including hearing their homeroom celebrated on the afternoon announcements! Once we get to 30 Super Golden Eagle Eyes as a building, we will celebrate our efforts to take care of ourselves, others, and Summerside as an entire school community!
Your child might also be talking about earning an apple or a school bus which are additional ways we are recognizing individual efforts to follow Eagle Expectations throughout the school day and on the bus. We are recognizing and celebrating individual students on the announcements each day for doing the right thing, even when no one is watching! Stay tuned for more about all of these recognitions and celebrations throughout the school year.
Here is the link to the presentation we reviewed during our assembly together which also includes insight into our Stop and Think process that we implement at Summerside to help students communicate their needs and support them when they are having a difficult time following Eagle Expectations during the school day. You'll see that we wrapped up our assembly together moving into our School Family groups. We started our School Families last year as a way for students in all grade levels to continue to support one another and form yet another group and adult who they can turn to learn, lead, and succeed together. More to come about School Families when they get together again in October.
Monday's assembly certainly set the tone for an outstanding rest of the week together! Be sure to check out the team newsletters below for insight into what is happening in each grade level. As parents, we often ask, "How was your day? What did you learn?" and we often receive, "Fine. Nothing." With the information in the newsletters below, we can switch those questions to "Tell me about graphing in math. How do you identify a theme and setting of a story?" and hopefully, answers will start flowing and growing in their connections to the content even more!
Thank you for sharing your incredible children with us every day! Great things are certainly happening at Summerside and throughout the West Clermont School District!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Courtney & Ms. Lowe

Middle School Start Time Update - 9/16/22
On May 9, 2022, the West Clermont Citizens Advisory Commission (CAC) made a recommendation to the Board of Education to adjust the middle school start time to 8 a.m. Their proposal was based on their extensive research, expert presentations, and student, staff and parent surveys.
In response, over the summer, the Board tasked district leadership with researching the feasibility of changing the middle school start time. At the September 12 Board of Education meeting, Mr. Chuck LaFata, the district's Director of Operations, gave an update to the Board. He shared that a professional traffic study is underway and that Petermann Transportation is working on a proposed routing model that closely mirrors our current system but with the adjusted middle school start time. The Operations Team plans to share the findings at the October 12 Board of Education meeting.
As we continue our research and planning, we will keep families and staff up-to-date.
