Dear Summerside Families,
As we head into Spring Break, we hope everyone gets the opportunity to slow down a bit this next week, to rest, read a good book, and recharge for the last two months of the school year! Our students have been working hard, and we know you have too in getting your children to school on time each day, making sure they are well-rested, ready to learn, and supporting their homework completion at night. Spring break allows for a little less stress and time to reset routines to finish strong! We will look forward to seeing our Eagles back at school Monday, April 10, 2023!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Courtney & Ms. Lowe
P.S. Look for the next Summerside Eagle Update on 4/15/23.
Grade-level newsletters will be updated every two weeks.
Our Discover team newsletter will be updated quarterly.
Updated 3/17/23
We are moving into Ohio State Testing season when we return from spring break. Please support your child during these weeks with a consistent schedule, getting to school on time, and being present each day. The key weeks to protect are as follows:
Third - Fourth Graders: English Language Arts, April 17 - April 21 and Math, May 1 - 5
Fifth Graders: English Language Arts, April 18 - April 21, Science April 23 - 28, and Math, May 2 - 5.
Cell Phones and Smartwatches
We are noticing many Summerside students are bringing cell phones and/or Smartwatches to school and using these devices during school hours. Please be aware that using a Smartwatch or cell phone during school hours is prohibited, per West Clermont School Board Policy. The usage of devices during school hours is distracting to all learners; please remind your child to reach out to their teacher if they need assistance or need to communicate with you during the school day.
West Clermont Parent Student Handbook (linked above)
26. Wireless Communication Device - Failure to follow policy. Students may possess and use wireless
communication devices (WCDs) on school property, school provided transportation, or at
school-sponsored activities only during approved times and for approved purposes.
West Clermont School Board Policy-
5136 - PERSONAL COMMUNICATION DEVICES
For purposes of this policy, "personal communication device" (PCD) includes computers, tablets (e.g., iPad-like devices), electronic readers ("e-readers"; e.g., Kindle-like devices), cell phones, smartphones (e.g., iPhones, Android devices, Windows Mobile devices, etc.), and/or other web-enabled devices of any type.
Students may use Personal Communication Devices (PCDs before and after school, during their lunch break, in between classes as long as they do not create a distraction, disruption or otherwise interfere with the educational environment, during after school activities (e.g., extra-curricular activities), or at school-related functions. Use of PCDs, except those approved by a teacher or administrator, at any other time is prohibited and they must be powered completely off (i.e., not just placed into vibrate or silent mode) and stored out of sight.
Arrival Reminder-
Please do not pull up to create second arrival line until 9:15. Students eating breakfast are being dropped off until then. Thank You!
PBIS
Summerside currently has two Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS) Teams that meet monthly. Our goal is to ensure all students have access and support to our building-wide plan and to provide extra assistance to those students who struggle behaviorally.
Our Summerside Building Wide PBIS expectations are:
Take Care of Yourself
Take Care of Others
Take Care of Summerside
When teachers and/or other staff notice any particular student struggling with expectations on a consistent basis, that student may be referred to our PBIS Tier 2 Team. The team reviews data to determine if more support is needed.
We would like to make sure parents also have an avenue for referral to the PBIS Tier 2 Team. If you feel your child needs additional behavioral support at school please contact your child’s teacher. Your child’s teacher will be able to provide some insight and a referral may be sent to our Tier 2 Team. A member of the PBIS Tier 2 team will be in contact if the referral is found to warrant adding your child to our Tier 2 intervention.

West Clermont Safety Update
West Clermont High School is hosting a First Responder Interagency Incident Response Training in partnership with Union Township Police and Fire Departments on March 31, the first day of spring break. This training ensures our local emergency responders are prepared to respond to any emergency situation that may occur on campus or within the district.
This practice exercise includes procedures for responding to scenarios such as an intruder on campus. We take the safety and security of our school community seriously and are grateful to our first responders for the practice and preparedness.

Recently, West Clermont released the Talking to Your Kids About School Safety and Wellbeing Discussion Guide as part of Volume 2 of the WC Roadmap Report. We recognize that school safety may be a tough topic to discuss at home so we developed the guide to help with the conversation with the support of the West Clermont Citizens Advisory Commission (CAC). The easy to use resource has two parts that consist of a Discussion Guide and an in depth survey. We urge you to take some time to have these important conversations with your kids.
