Dear Summerside Eagle Families,
Parent-teacher conferences are right around the corner and our goal is to meet with every parent in some way, in person, on the phone, or virtually. See below for links to sign up to meet with your child's teacher on either Wednesday, October 5 or Thursday, October 13 from 5:00 - 8:30 pm. We encourage all of our Summerside families to connect with your child's teacher in the fall to continue to build our partnership with you to ensure your child is learning, leading, and succeeding at Summerside. Benchmark assessment results will be shared at conference time as well as insight into the work your child will be doing to meet their individual learning goals and ways you can support them at home.
Our district #WCCares Newsletter was posted earlier this morning and it is chock full of Summerside faces! Be sure to click in to get to know our incredible new resource coordinator, learn more about our new SRO, Officer Ventre, and see pictures and celebrations of Ms. Emery, our beloved kindergarten teacher, and so many and so much more happening around our district that we can all be proud of together! This truly is a district on the RISE!
We have a shortened next couple of weeks as our teachers come together for professional development and our fall break. Please note that your children do not have school this coming Thursday, 10/6, Friday, 10/7 or Monday, 10/10. We hope all enjoy your extended fall weekend next weekend!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Courtney & Ms. Lowe
We encourage all families to partner with their child's teacher during the fall conferences.
PTO is hosting a book fair during conferences on 10/13. We encourage you to celebrate your child's hard work with a special trip to the book fair that evening as all are welcome, even if your conference night is scheduled the week before. See look for an opportunity to volunteer at the book fair soon!
Please join us for a parent/student information night about our upcoming camp experience on Monday, Oct. 3rd at 6:30 in the Summerside cafeteria.
Camp Dates: Wednesday, November 3 - Friday, November 5
We encourage all fifth graders to attend. PTO will support with scholarships as needed as we do not want cost to be a deterrent for any family.
Between bathroom accidents, cafeteria spills, and holes in pants, the health clinic is in a pants shortage. Please consider packing an extra pair of pants in your child's backpack. We have had to call parents and guardians during the day to bring up extra clothes. Gently used pants and shirt donations are always welcome too. Thank you!
Summerside Stop & Think Insight
At Summerside, we use Stop and Think forms as a way for students to reset when upset, frustrated, or struggling to follow Eagle Expectations in class. If your child is unable to reset using the classroom Stop and Think procedure, (s)he will be re-directed to take a break in a neighboring classroom in order to be ready to rejoin our class activities appropriately. Whenever this occurs, we will alert families, so that you can discuss with your child some ways they might work through these struggles in the future so they can feel in control of their emotions and stay ready to learn.
Thank you for your partnership in helping students grow!
Recess Equipment
Many of our students are bringing extra equipment to use at recess. Unfortunately, bringing in extra items increases the chances of students' personal items being lost or destroyed. Additionally, some students use the equipment at inappropriate times (e.g. throwing a football in the cafeteria or in the bus line). For these reasons, we are discouraging extra items from being brought in. However, grade-level teachers will decide if students will be allowed to bring additional recess equipment to school.
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding!
Samegoal emails
During your child's time at West Clermont, you may receive emails from Samegoal. This software generates educational documents that we utilize to communicate key plans for specific student needs. Not all parents may receive a document from this website, but if you do receive it, please open it, view and sign if indicated. Thank You!

Shout out to Madelyn Stoetzel, a parent of a first-grade Eagle, for organizing such a special event for our entire school!
These are just a few of so many volunteers who helped support making this night such a big success! Thank you to all who donated items as well... the hot dogs were a hit!!

The Scholastic Book Fair is coming to Summerside! Students will be able to preview the book fair on Tuesday, October 11, and then visit the book fair with their class on a scheduled day throughout the rest of that week. A book is an outstanding way to celebrate your child's hard work and to continue to encourage the joy of reading!
The book fair will also be open the night of conferences on 10/13, 5:00 - 8:30 pm, and all are welcome, even if you are conferencing on 10/5!
Look for volunteer sign-ups soon as we will need people to help run shifts on 10/12 - 14 from 9:30 - 3:30 and then 4:30 - 9:00 pm on 10/13.
Thank you to our PTO Co-Vice President, Emma Gromek, for taking the lead on this opportunity for our students and families!

Middle School Start Time Update - 9/16/22
On May 9, 2022, the West Clermont Citizens Advisory Commission (CAC) made a recommendation to the Board of Education to adjust the middle school start time to 8 a.m. Their proposal was based on their extensive research, expert presentations, and student, staff and parent surveys.
In response, over the summer, the Board tasked district leadership with researching the feasibility of changing the middle school start time. At the September 12 Board of Education meeting, Mr. Chuck LaFata, the district's Director of Operations, gave an update to the Board. He shared that a professional traffic study is underway and that Petermann Transportation is working on a proposed routing model that closely mirrors our current system but with the adjusted middle school start time. The Operations Team plans to share the findings at the October 12 Board of Education meeting.
As we continue our research and planning, we will keep families and staff up-to-date.
