Dear Eagle Families,

Welcome to the 2022 - 2023 school year at Summerside Elementary! We are excited for the new school year ahead together and have been working hard to prepare our learning environment and opportunities for your child. We are kicking off the new school year with an Open House on Tuesday, August 16th from 4:00 - 7:30 pm. We hope you can join us as we continue to partner with you to ensure your child succeeds every day, in every way! Your child’s homeroom teacher is looking forward to meeting you and your child in their classroom. You are welcome to bring their classroom supplies with you to leave on their desk so they can come to school on their first day with a lighter load. PTO board members will be here to welcome you as well as other outstanding partnerships to consider for your child. Open house night is also an opportunity to connect with your child’s peers and their families.

Our first day of school is Thursday, August 18, 2022 for all first through fifth graders. Kindergartners will phase into school on the first two days which means they may start on the 18th or 19th to allow for smaller group sizes:

Kindergarten Students with Last Names A-J will attend on Thursday, August 18th

Kindergarten Students with Last Names K-Z will attend on Friday, August 19th

ALL kindergarten students will attend each day beginning Monday, August 22nd

Our school hours are from 9:20 am - 3:55 pm. We will begin unloading our buses and arrival car line at 9:18 am along the front curb when staff is available to supervise and ensure your child is safe. For the first few days, we will be meeting all students outside, around the building to welcome them and make sure that everyone gets to their classroom safely. Hopefully, this alleviates any worry about how your child will find their new classroom as we will make sure that we do it together with their new classroom community!

You should receive an email for each child by the end of the day today with your child’s homeroom teacher’s name and kindergarten start date if you have completed/updated your child's registration for the new school year. If you have not yet completed your child's re-registration steps, see step seven in the district update below and your email to help guide you. District Update - 8.1.22

Happy August, West Clermont families! The 2022-23 school year is (almost) here! In this District Update, there are SIX things we'd like to share with you:

1. Wolves Welcome Email
   By the end of the day this Friday, August 5th, all West Clermont families will receive an official "Wolves Welcome Email" that is personalized for your child. In this email, you will find all of the important information and links that you'll need to complete your 2022-23 Back to School Checklist. Be on the lookout this Friday afternoon for an email with the subject: Wolves Welcome Email!
   

2. Homeroom Teacher Assignments and Class Schedules

   • Preschool families will receive information directly from their child’s preschool teacher.

   • Elementary families will receive their child's homeroom teacher name in the "Wolves Welcome Email" (see above) on August 5th.

   • Families of 6th grade students will receive their student's homeroom assignment via email by August 8th. In this email, families will also have the opportunity to sign up for the August 16th 6th Grade Meet the Teacher/Family event.

   • 7th and 8th grade students will get their class schedules during schedule pick-up days on August 17th.

   • 9th-12th grade students will get their class schedules on the first day of school. A copy will be available for those that will be attending the open house on August 17th (9th grade only) or August 18th (10th-12th grade). More information about open houses will come directly to families from Principal Pottebaum.
     

3. Transportation Request Forms
   If your K-8th grade student rides a school bus and requires a pick-up or drop-off location that is not at your home address, you need to submit a Transportation Request Form by August 3rd. All requests received by the Transportation Department by this date will be in effect for the start of school. If you submit these after August 3rd, transportation to the alternate address will not begin until the Monday after school starts. These are required annually so if you submitted one for your student last school year, you will need to submit one again. It is required to have the same pickup or drop off location Monday-Friday. 4. Citizens Advisory Commission Accepting Applications
   REMINDER: The Citizens Advisory Commission (CAC) is currently accepting applications. For more information, visit the West Clermont Citizens Advisory Commission Application.
   

5. Safety Guide
   As we mentioned in our July 18th District Update, we encourage you to check out our new Safety Guide that highlights our many safety initiatives and informs you of ways you can help us prioritize the safety of those on our campus each day. Also, check out our recent series of blog posts that go into more detail about our current work with safety and well-being.
   

6. Community Notice About Upcoming First Responder Training
   In an effort to prevent undue confusion or concern, we want to let you know that on August 2nd, 3rd, and 8th, various Clermont County first responders will be using the West Clermont Middle School campus to conduct training for their personnel. If you are near the middle school on those dates, you may notice an increase in both law enforcement and first responder vehicles in the parking lot and additional activity around the property as part of their training.
   

7. Registration for Current Students
   Thanks to those parents and caregivers who have completed the re-registration process for next school year on the PowerSchool Parent Portal! We still need 28% of our students to be re-registered for the 2022-23 school year.

To complete the registration process, please follow the instructions in the email you received with the subject “West Clermont: Urgent:Timely Action Needed!” Completing registration will guarantee that you will receive important information for the 2022-23 school year including your student’s homeroom teacher, middle school team/den, and/or your student’s high school schedule on the earliest possible date. **You will not receive a confirmation email when you have completed the process.

As of August 1st, 2022 middle school and high school students may not participate in extracurricular activities if the registration process is not complete.
