Dear Summerside Families,
Talk about a week filled with A LOT to celebrate at Summerside?!! We kicked off the week with a continued focus on learning, leading, and succeeding. We held School Families on Monday afternoon with a focus on Citizenship, defining what being a good citizen means, and then working on writing cards to children in the hospital and/or adults in nursing care.
Students in grades 3 - 5 did an OUTSTANDING job showing what they know on the ELA Ohio State Assessments. Teachers were so proud of how our students worked to slow themselves down to really do their best!!! All students in grades 3 - 5 will begin taking their math tests in the next two weeks and science in 5th grade. We are so proud of their efforts already and appreciate your support in getting your child here every day, in every grade as we work to build a strong foundation for all together!
Our PTO was in full force at Summerside this week, providing opportunities for our students and families to come together in so many meaningful ways! From the Scholastic Book Fair in the library all week to the skating party on Tuesday evening and then a lovely Grandparent's Brunch this morning - our active PTO volunteers provided so many smiles and reasons to celebrate this week in so many big ways!
As you may know, every year we ask families to confirm and update their child's information for the upcoming school year. This re-registration process helps to make sure we have up-to-date contact and medical information for our students. It is time for you to re-register your student(s) for the 2023-24 school year!
To complete the re-registration process for your child(ren), you will log into your PowerSchool Parent Portal account. Below are the links on how to access the parent portal and re-registration directions. You can also find these links on the WolfPack Hub, located at: http://westcler.org/hub.
Please complete the re-registration process as soon as possible to guarantee that you will receive important information for the 2023-24 school year including your student’s homeroom teacher on the earliest possible date. Completing this will also allow your student to participate in extracurricular activities during the 2023-24 school year.
Need Help?
Please contact us and we will help you get this important step done as soon as possible as it helps us plan for another exciting year ahead!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Courtney & Ms. Lowe
Grade-level newsletters will be updated every two weeks.
Our Discover team newsletter will be updated quarterly.
Updated 3/17/23
We are moving into Ohio State Testing season when we return from spring break. Please support your child during these weeks with a consistent schedule, getting to school on time, and being present each day. The key weeks to protect are as follows:
Third - Fourth Graders: English Language Arts, April 17 - April 21 and Math, April 23 - 28* Please note this change from what was previously communicated to allow for the upcoming 4th grade spring performance.
Fifth Graders: English Language Arts, April 18 - April 21, Science April 23 - 28, and Math, May 2 - 5.
*Please note, this event is for 5th graders only as a way for them to begin to connect with their soon-to-be peers from other schools!
PBIS
Summerside currently has two Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS) Teams that meet monthly. Our goal is to ensure all students have access and support to our building-wide plan and to provide extra assistance to those students who struggle behaviorally.
Our Summerside Building Wide PBIS expectations are:
Take Care of Yourself
Take Care of Others
Take Care of Summerside
When teachers and/or other staff notice any particular student struggling with expectations on a consistent basis, that student may be referred to our PBIS Tier 2 Team. The team reviews data to determine if more support is needed.
We would like to make sure parents also have an avenue for referral to the PBIS Tier 2 Team. If you feel your child needs additional behavioral support at school please contact your child’s teacher. Your child’s teacher will be able to provide some insight and a referral may be sent to our Tier 2 Team. A member of the PBIS Tier 2 team will be in contact if the referral is found to warrant adding your child to our Tier 2 intervention.

Recently, West Clermont released the Talking to Your Kids About School Safety and Wellbeing Discussion Guide as part of Volume 2 of the WC Roadmap Report. We recognize that school safety may be a tough topic to discuss at home so we developed the guide to help with the conversation with the support of the West Clermont Citizens Advisory Commission (CAC). The easy to use resource has two parts that consist of a Discussion Guide and an in depth survey. We urge you to take some time to have these important conversations with your kids.
