What does it mean for our lives that God can see the future?

Read John 14:1-3. Jesus will return someday to take us to Heaven. Talk about what you think Heaven will be like.

Overview: Did you know that God can see everything, even the future? He is that big. Think about it. We don’t know what will happen an hour or even a minute from right now. But God does. Nothing takes God by surprise because He knows everything, from beginning to end. Psalm 22 is a great example. It was written 1000 years before Jesus came. A thousand years is a long time. That’s longer than the United States has been a country! But, in this psalm, it describes the way Jesus would die to save us from our sins. It describes specific things that would happen - things a regular person couldn’t guess or predict. And every one of those things came true! Amazing! God knew those things because He can see the future, even yours.

Why would it be fun to see into your future? If God has a plan for us, does that mean we don’t have a choice? (To follow God’s plan means we have to obey Him. We can make choices that go against His plan. The consequence is missing an opportunity God had for us.

1. Create an invitation to give to a friend, neighbor or family member to come to church with you. Work on this as a class and write ideas on the whiteboard. (this will help the kids with spelling) Include: what you do at church, why it’s fun, and who they will hear about.

1. It is so important for us to follow God’s plan! He knows what is best for us! Give each child some paper and markers. Have them put an X on one corner of the paper and an X on the other end of the corner and create a map from their birthday to heaven. They need to make is look like a map of their lives and the line from one x to the other needs to be a representative of “God’s plan” that they need to follow. So some examples could include school, home, family, being good, going to church, reading your bible, etc…It is the perfect opportunity for some good conversation on how our lives should look if we follow God! Also, have them draw a little bit where Heaven is and let them depict what they think it will be like!

1. Have the kids line up shortest to tallest and take turns going in one large loop around the room. The leader can do whatever they like during their lap (within reason, ha) and all kids have to follow! When they get back to where they started the leader goes to the back of the line and the next shortest person becomes the leader. Repeat this as many times as you would like or until everyone gets a turn to be the leader.

1. Play simon says with the kids! Relate it back to the lesson by noting that even when it is hard we need to listen to God's path for our lives and what God says.

1. Divide into two teams.
2. Have one kid at a time run down and retrieve a Lego piece for their team and bring it back.
3. As a group they will work to stack together the books of the Bible in order.
