This story involves the same Mary and Martha we learned about in the Jesus Raises Lazarus from the Dead lesson. We learned in that story that Mary and Martha were good friends of Jesus, along with their brother Lazarus. He would stay at their house frequently as he was traveling around Jerusalem.
In this story, Mary and Martha were entertaining Jesus at their house. Martha was very busy serving Jesus, preparing the meal, cleaning, etc. Mary was sitting at Jesus' feet, listening to Jesus teach. We don't know if Jesus was just teaching Mary, or whether others were there.

But Martha became indignant at Mary that she wasn't helping out. You can imagine in your head Martha passing by the doorway to the living room on her way to get food supplies, taking the trash out, or taking the food to the dining room, each time getting more and more frustrated that she was doing all this work herself while her sister Mary was just sitting down in the living room with Jesus. Martha finally snapped: "Lord, my sister has left me to do the work by myself. Don’t you care? Tell her to help me!" (Luke 10:40).
But Jesus had a very important lesson for Martha. He told her that Mary had a choice. She could have gotten very busy with all the serving, preparing, and cleaning - just like Martha. Or she could have chosen to spend time with Jesus and learn from him. Jesus told Martha that Mary had made a good choice.

Markers
Brad brackets
Scissors
Construction paper

1. Decorate the paper plate to resemble a clock, with markings around the outside of it.
2. Add notes and captions to the clock, providing different ways to spend time with Jesus and serve Him. Add larger verses or captions to the plate.
3. Cut paper pieces into arrow shapes to look like the hands of a clock.
4. Carefully attach the arrows onto the plate with a brad fastener so that they can move like clock hands would do.
5. If desired, attach a hanger or magnet to display the clock.

Stickers, glitter, or other decorative items
Pipe cleaners or ribbon/string

Select paper or card stock. Cut papers into cross or heart shapes. If desired, create a two-toned effect by layering one on top of the other.
Add verses or captions to the cross, describing how we can put Christ first in our lives.
Add extra decorations such as stickers, band-aids, and glitter as desired.
Turn the cross into a door hanger or decoration by punching a hole and adding a string or pipe cleaner.

- Come together and sit in a circle to talk about what they learned today. Ask them the same questions that you asked at the beginning of the day. How are their answers different now that they know more? Talk about what they can go home and tell their family. This is also a time they can update their journals (big kids only) or color the pictures (littles).
- Ask if anyone has a prayer request/praise report. Pray over requests.
- Worship time - Have the kids go find a spot to themselves and have some time with God (play the song below for around 3/5 minutes).

- Have them gather around the table and draw a picture or write a letter to their families about what they learned today.
- Play a game of some sort. (If you have the hula hoops, have them join hands in a circle and pass the hula hoop around the circle without breaking their hands)
