Jacob and Esau
Genesis 25
Genesis 25
Who is Jacob? Who is Esau? They were twin brothers!! Who remembers some names of the people we have been learning about over the past few weeks? Abraham... Sarah....Rebekah....Isaac... (give the kids some time to remember the story of each character and who they were! It is a great time to review and even revisit the old videos).
Rebekah and Isaac had twin boys and their names were Jacob and Esau!!
Jacob and Esau were VERYYYYY different! Esau was the first born and was very hairy! He grew up to be a great hunter which made Isaac very happy and Isaac chose Esau to be his favorite son. Jacob was the second born and was not hairy at all. He grew up to be Rebekah's favorite. Since Esau was the first born and Isaac's favorite, he was suppose to inherit the wealth and land of the family. He gave up his birthright one day to Jacob over some soup since he was coming home from a hunt and was very hungry. Isaac became very ill and Esau went to see him. Isaac told Esau that he would give him the Lord's blessing and his birthright back if he went out and got him one last meal. Esau changed his mind and wanted this so he grabbed his bow and arrow and went hunting for some good meat. While he was away, Rebekah ran to Jacob and they came up with a plan to trick Isaac! Jacob and Rebekah made some food and disguised Jacob in sheep's skin to that Isaac (who was now blind) would think that Jacob was his brother and give Jacob the blessing instead!! It worked and Jacob tricked his father Isaac into giving him the blessing. When Esau returned he discovered the trick that Jacob had made and became very angry!!!! So angry that he wanted to kill his brother Jacob! Rebekah helped Jacob run far, far away. Even though Jacob made a huge mistake he still received the blessing and Esau did come and forgive Jacob.
