What is New Year's? New Year's represents a start to a new and fresh year. Each year is defined by the events that happen within that year. Let's focus on being the best version of ourselves this coming year! Today we are going to come up with some things to pray for this year and some ways that we can be better christians this year and get closer to the Lord.

Directions:
Let the kids pick which color of construction paper they would like to use.
They should trace their handprint and cute it out for the front and back of their prayer book.
Now, based on the size of their handprint, the kids can cut out squares or rectangles to write their prayers on.
After the kids write their prayers, they should hole punch the bottom corner of each prayer and their two handprints.
Lastly, they can take a ribbon and string through the hole to make their prayerbook stay together.
Relation to New Years Lesson: It is important to talk about all the good and bad that happened in 2020. Ask the kids to think about things they want to pray for daily for this upcoming year. These are the things they should write on their cards and take with them to pray daily/nightly over. Take this time to talk about the importance of prayer and ask the kids to share if God has ever answered a prayer in their life.

The kids can dip their hand into the paint (they can even use a paint brush or paper towel to blot the paint on their hand) and gently place it on the paper.
They should put four hand prints on the paper (one for each number in 2021)
When the paint has dried, they can decorate the paper by placing a number in each handprint (see the picture above). They can also decorate around their handprints.

Relation to the lesson: We countdown to midnight each year and start a new, fresh year... Well, the same can be said for our walk with God. Sometimes we mess up and when we do all we have to do is reach out to God which is similar to what we countdown to each New Years! New beginnings with God are only a prayer away. You can even countdown if you want to!

Click on the links below and ask the kids what they remember from each week! This would be a good time for them to make sure their journals are up to date.
-Ask if anyone has a prayer request/praise report. Pray over requests.
-Worship time- Have the kids go find a spot to themselves and have some time with God (play the song below for around 3/5 minutes).
-Have them gather around the table and draw a picture or write a letter to their families about what they learned today.
-Play a game of some sort. (If you have the hula hoops, have them join hands in a circle and pass the hula hoop around the circle without breaking their hands)
