Jesus is Tempted
Jesus is Tempted
10:00-10:15 - Get to know new kids, entertain early arrivals until lesson begins
This is a short story and is best read directly from the scripture. Jesus was tempted 3 times by Satan, and gave 3 rebuttals from scripture. The main points of emphasis for this lesson are:
Knowing scripture helped Jesus resist temptation
Jesus did not fall for Satan's temptation and never sinned his entire life
What do you like to eat when you are hungry?
Today, we're going to learn about a time when Jesus didn't eat anything for 40 days!
**Read the story out of the Bible and watch the video***
Where was Jesus when Satan tempted him? (The desert)
How long did he go without eating? (40 days)
What did Satan ask Jesus to do first? (To turn the stones into bread to eat)
What did Satan ask Jesus to do second? (He told him to throw himself off the top of the temple and have angels catch him)
What did Satan ask Jesus to do third? (He took him to a high mountain and promised him everything he saw if he would just bow down to Satan)
How did Jesus resist temptation? (By quoting Bible verses)
Did Jesus ever sin when he was on this earth? (No)
Jesus was able to live a perfect, sinless life because he was God himself, come to earth to be our salvation.
We all sin, though, because we're not God. Have you asked Jesus, who was perfect, to forgive your sins?

Keep the fun going and follow the “Jesus is the way” theme! All you need is paper and writing materials, but feel free to get as creative as you like when you design things like:
A map: help kids make a map, showing somewhere they know, directions to somewhere they’d like to go, or even something completely random! You can also turn it into an oldfashioned “pirate treasure map”, if you need a bonus activity.
A maze: create a large box or circle, and draw a path through it to the other side. Arrange confusing and conflicting lines around it, and pass off to someone else to try and solve.

Say: Have you ever played “The Floor Is Lava?” When I say that, you have five seconds to get somewhere safe—that means no part of you is touching the floor. Typically, any individual can start the game just by shouting “The floor is lava!” Any player remaining on the floor in the next few seconds is “out” and can not rejoin the game for some period of time.
Play the game. Have kids walk or run around. If possible, take kids to different settings, such as outside or the church lobby, and see if they can find safe places then.
Ask:
What was it like trying to find a place away from the “lava”?
Say: The Bible tells us to run far away from things that tempt us.
Read 2 Timothy 2:22.
Ask:
What are some things that tempt kids your age?
In our game, what were some safe places to get away from the lava?
Say: That verse tells us where to go to get safe from temptation. It says to pursue righteous living, faithfulness, love, and peace. Those are like the chairs, tables, or wherever else we went to escape from the lava.
Ask:
Was there ever a point in our game where you didn’t think you’d be able to get off the floor in time?
Say: Sometimes temptation can feel like that—it’s too hard to get away! But God makes a promise about that.
Read 1 Corinthians 10:13.
Say: The next time you’re tempted, remember that the floor is lava! Run and look for an escape from the temptation. God promises to give you one!
