What is the idea for this project?

a moon or sun necklace with a face on it to match the star with a face on it necklace i thrifted. i don't want to have to model the weird little kids with bugles in rhino so i'm keeping just as face+shape

How do you want people to react to your piece?

recognizing the face would be pretty cool but i don't know if the print resolution will be good enough for the face to show through

What inspires your piece?

that other necklace i have and also the fact that i don't have enough weird jewelry

Rhino experimentation with displacement

still figuring out how to convert the blender files into a height map bc rn its super flat... it also has weird glitches when projected onto a 3d shape (as pictured above), and when displaced onto a surface it becomes unextrudable. i'm figuring it out

thats is what its supposed to look like on the right and below is what it looks like

when assigned to just one surface of a shape, for some reason it lifts the surface above the rest of the shape but the actual physical displaced thingamabob is in a different place?

Prototype 1

first draft of the prototype in rhino, with the rays of the sun done in grasshopper. clearly this needed to be redone bc what is that!

it looked so weird, but i printed it anyways just to see if it would work.

things to fix: loop for jump ring, more clear nose, less spiky, get rid of weird indents (if i can fix the displacement map, more defined eyes.

Rhino try 2

fixing the rhino file to look more human- prusa wasn't a fan of the eyes i guess

the map the file is based from: because of the distortion, the nose needed to have more contrast than the rest of the face to appear distinctly. it was entirely drawn by hand in microsoft paint x pixlr for blending. the eye sockets were blurred to prevent weird spiky bits, and so was the nose.

made it less spikey and changed the nose

final prototypeish ( I changed the nose to be more symmetrical and set the eyes deeper and made them protrude more. the left eye looks weirder but its just the lighting in rhino i swear
