3 Main Takeaways
Scientist are using 3d printing to artificially replicate things that they might see in nature and making objects in a single piece instead of assembly of items.
In the future it could be possible to make plant like clothes that slowly grows and adapts while it grows.
The fact that although we've made a lot of advancements in the tech field we still can't replicate the things that nature can.
We decided to create an alligator animal as our 3D printing challenge design because we have to create an object that is press fit. We decided to use ball socket joints connect the alligator parts together. I printed a test of the ball socket joints the rhino design is below:
The biggest challenge was probably figuring out the best way to create the joints so that it fulfills our goal of something press fit.
Grasshopper Basics
I created a polar arry of lines and created a triangle using 3 lines and a circle.
Grasshopper Cylinders
I created a cylinder base with a pipe pillar and a sphere on top of it.
Grasshopper Tessellations
I created a honey comb type of object which was interesting how the extrusion works with the hexagonal parttern
Grasshopper Torus
I create a floating table type of design and I thought it was interesting how loft worked in grasshopper.
Grasshopper Voronoi
I made a patterned design and I thought that voronoi was pretty useful in making complex designs.
Grasshopper Table
I made a hexagonal table and something that was challenging was realizing that circles don't work with discontinuity.
Grasshopper Curves and Surfaces
I made a ball with cylinder spikes around it in a paraloid, something that was challenging was figuring out what all the parts do
Grasshopper 2D Illusion Pattern
I made a paterned spiral design, something that was challenging was figuring out each of the parts does in this design.
Grasshopper Graph Mapper
I made a weird shaped pawn, something that was challenging was figuring out how graph mapper works.
Grasshopper Sphere Voronoid
I followed the tutorial and created a sphere with green and gray patterns on it, I had some challenges trying to figure out what the weaverbird components did.
Grasshopper Paneling with Surface Morph
I followed the tutorial and created a cone with many different ellipses, I had some challenges trying to figure out what the each component of did but figure it out in the end.
Grasshopper Voronoi Cell
I followed the tutorial and created a box with different size holes in it, I had some challenges trying to figure out what the weaverbird components did but I figured out how they interacted with messes in the end.
Grasshopper Mini Challenge
Construct Domain
Constructs an object based off of the Start Domain and End Domain that is given.

Discontinuity
A Discontinuity is a distinct break in physical continuity or in time. The discontinuity of any polygons are the vertices of that polygon.
