Creating 3D Objects with Grasshopper Tutorials/Manipulating Patterns
Goal: Create an object using the functions learned through the grasshopper tutorials
Goal: Create an object using the functions learned through the grasshopper tutorials
To create my object I combined the torus function with other functions to make my object. I attempted making a more complicated object with other functions, but they wouldn't combine in Rhino so I decided to go bakc to using torus.
Goal: Creating a container using voronoi
Inspiration: We wanted to make a wavy surface that was only half Voronoi based on the images below, we also wanted the object to contain a single coin.
Rhino File: We first made the wavy surface by following a youtube tutorial, and then we used one of the Voronoi tutorials to make a 2d Voronoi surface that we then extruded into 3d surfaces. After this, we used boolean difference to create the holes in our container.
Prints
Print 1
We made a tiny print to quickly see if like the shape of our wavy surface.
Print 2
We made a larger print that also had the voronoi.
Between Prints 2 and 3 we decided our container would hold a coin so we used a cylinder and boolean difference to create a space for the coin to fit
Print 3
In this print the quarter didn't fit into the space and the bottom was very rough so we decided to re-print it.
Print 4
In this print we decided to scale the container to fit a half dolar coin. The print was a lot smoother, but the parts of the bottom had misprinted and there was too much space for the coin.
Goal: Creating a container using voronoi
Inspiration/mood board: I wanted to create a bust of the rapper MF DOOM that also used Voronoi
Sketch:
Rhino File:
I first made a 2d mask
Then I made the hood
Then I made it 3d and added voronoi
I used a grasshopper tutorial provided by the school to turn the hood into vornoi curves that I could pipe.
Final Render:
Print 1 (Prototype)
I made a print without the voronoi hood to see if the mask would look good.
Although I ran into an issue, I had a lot of difficulty removing the supports, but I was still able to get an idea of the shape of the mask, so I decided not to reprint.
Print 2 (Prototype)
I tested the final design
Although I still had difficulty removing supports, I was happy with the design.
Print 2 looks like a cool album cover in black and white.
