Requirements/specifications:
Voronoi cell
An object that you can wear
My team considered different options for wearable items with a voronoi pattern that we could make, like jewelry or flip-flops. We ended up choosing flip-flops with a voronoi pattern in the base.
Each person worked on their own version of the flip-flop design. I originally tried out a design that used voronoi attractors, which created clusters of more dense voronoi, before going with a more uniform design. I also changed the shape of the flip-flop base over the course of the design process.
When I tried to print my design, it became clear that there was a problem with the file. It turns out the file had only included the piping outside, so the main structure of the shoe wasn't filled in (you can see breaks in the piping below). Also, there were a number of non-manifold edges where different meshes don't join together perfectly, especially where a lot of cells combined.
Color-coded to show what was able to BooleanUnion together and what wasn't — need to see what isn't working with the polysrfs where the sections meet.
The object I fabricated was a flip-flop with a voronoi pattern in the base. Samu was able to edit my design using Weaverbird, so while the piping still wasn't solid, it still was able to print. The next steps for the project would be to fix the non-manifold edges and figure out a way to make the piping solid so it's stronger.
