I really want to make a pendant that represents something
Representing something for me can be anything; a circular object represents unity and continuation, good habits and within myself. There is many different ways I can acheive this. I can use a lot of different tutorial to create unique circular shape.
It needs to be semi small to fit on my chain, and it cannot be too heavy or dense becuse an increase of density quickly turns the budget around.
I still need to figure out exact size, detail, and material because all of those things will increase the price.
It will be a wearable piece, but the chain will not be printed with it so I will have to use the one I wear right now.
I could make it a few different pieces, so that it moves or folds or changes in some way.
Final Shapeways Dimensions/Upload
x = 19.95mm
y = 19.8mm
x = 11.23mm
Upload worked! Fits all Dimension standards.
To make the pendant I wanted I started with our Voronoi Cell which I could minipulate to the amount of holes and curves that I wanted. After changing around the fat blob to make it slighly smaller and skinnier, I used the polar array feature on Rhino 6 to array the minipulated cell in a circular shape. I ended up polar arraying 10 of the cells, leaving a gap in the center for a chain. You can look through the whole shape and see the inner workings of it.
After I settled on my shape and design, I started to 3d print. I had never used the Ultimaker before, only the Prusa 3d printer. I uploaded my 3dm file and the first try failed. I was a guinnea pig for the newly fixed printer, which was ultimately the reason it failed to print. Samu offered more than enough help to me, retrying it over a long weekend, and getting the print I wanted. I printed two of them, one using no supports, and one using dissolving supports. There was a large difference in the time it took for both to print, but after the dissolving of the supports in my second print, I realized there was no difference in the structure and my piece didn't need supports. What was odd was my prints, even though the file was circular, would print elongated in one direction, but it actuallly makes it more unique and I like it; for my 3d print. I fixed my 3DM file and uploaded it to Shapeways which luckily fit all the requirements.
