Although the Armstrong River Hawks have had a rocky first half of the season they are still pushing forward fighting to win each game. Team captains Rocco Swartz, Joe Bartolowits, Kyan Kline, and Chase Jablonski spoke about the team’s performance this season, strategies, and the future.
After a tense season, Rocco had this to say about the team’s performance “I’d say even though we’ve lost more games than we’ve won, but I feel like every game was a dogfight.” This sentiment is shared with the other captains who all agreed that even though they weren’t as successful as they hoped, no game felt completely one-sided. There are several possible reasons for the team’s struggle this season. Still, as Rocco says, “I feel like with our weeks of practice and preparation, we don't struggle with strategizing but putting it into practice.”
When asked about their favorite memories while being on the team Rocco and Chase both answered their whole sophomore year, with Rocco saying it was the “highlight of my high school career,” while Chase said it was the “highlight of my life.” The other two answered differently, Kyan saying that his favorite was winning conference champs and Joe’s answer being the Aliquippa game specifically the active student section.
The other team captains also expressed concern over the large gap left by the seniors leaving at the end of the season, but they still have hope for the team’s future. Chase had this to say about the underclassmen, “We’ve got some young guys that have stepped up in moments we needed them to.” Chase and Joe had this advice for their underclassmen and those coming on to the team, “Practice hard, play hard, give everything you have” and “Stay patient."
