This year’s annual powderpuff football game is set to be a close matchup between the senior class of 2024 and the junior class of 2025.
Last year, the seniors (then juniors) defeated the class of 2023. The final score was 42-26. This year’s senior participants are determined to maintain their winning streak.
2023 Powderpuff
Powderpuff football is a modified version of the classic American pastime. In this game, two teams of women compete against each other. At Armstrong High School, the two teams are composed of junior and senior women, respectively. While the girls compete to achieve victory, they are cheered on by two male cheer squads.
The rules of powderpuff football are modified to make the game safer. Tackling is replaced with either a flag-pull or a two-hand touch. While some rules are changed, others remain the same, with touchdowns, field goals, and extra-point attempts still being available.
Powderpuff football has become a cherished tradition in many educational institutions throughout the nation. Many schools use this event as a fundraiser for charity or other causes.
Here at Armstrong High School, powderpuff is used as a fundraiser for the senior class cabinet to fund graduation and the senior trip, which is set to be in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee this year.
