As the 2023 football season rolls around, it’s time to immerse oneself in school spirit. Infamous for their demonstration of school spirit, the cheerleaders have been hard at work to make this year as successful as possible. The seniors this year are Ella Graff, Emma Lange, Sara Harriger, Chloe Handford, and Raya Mcintyer. This year is Graff’s first season. She said that she wanted to try something new this year and follow in the steps of her sister, a former cheerleader of AHS. She has been loving it ever since.
Senior Emma Lange also had a lot to say about the cheer team. She takes great pride in being a captain, which she attributed to her fondness of the leadership role. She loves being a role model for the younger cheerleaders and encouraging them to be their best for the team. Having fun was one of the priorities Ella and Emma both agreed is one of the top priorities for the team this year. Not only do they want to have fun, but they also want the audience to have fun. Interacting with the student section and the community is important to them and brings them joy.
Emma said football season is the squad’s favorite time of the year because they get to show off all the hard work they have put in throughout the summer. Some advice from Ella Graff to the underclassman is to not overthink what you are doing, and to live in the moment and have fun while also surrounding yourself with new friends along the way. Emma Lange concluded by saying that she believes the most important practice is to stay involved. When you remain involved, she explained, you have so much more fun rather than just sitting aside and watching. They encourage everyone to come out in support of the River Hawks this year, as they hope to bring home another conference championship!
