This year’s bowling team is currently undefeated and making their way to the section championship. Jordan Harmon, the captain, said that the team is currently ranked fifth in the state of Pennsylvania.
Jordan himself, a previous all-state and national qualifier, is currently ranked sixth in the state.
He is determined to get the entire team to the state championship after they were one place below the cut-off last year.
As the captain, Jordan’s job is to motivate the team. He tells them to “always focus on the next ball and not the last one.”
The team bonds at practices and tournaments as well as on trips together to Topgolf. Jordan’s favorite bowling memories were last year’s win against Franklin Regional because it was the team’s first 3000 series and his win at an adult-youth tournament with a perfect game.
Jordan has been bowling since ninth grade, when he discovered the science of bowling.
“It’s a very stressful sport. It’s way more difficult than people think.” Jordan explained that the better you get at bowling, the harder it becomes to excel. The more you know about it, the more factors there are to consider.
The physical game of bowling and the mental game of bowling are two separate fields to master, Jordan explained. Most aren’t aware of the technical elements of bowling since it’s such a popular form of entertainment. Speed, control, ball size, and oil patterns all come into play on the professional side, however.
There are around twenty bowlers on the 2023-2024 team, and representation has been steady for the past few years. Jordan described them as a family. He is joined by captain Lakeland Westmoreland and seniors Robert John and Sidney Lemmon.
Next year, Jordan expects a lot of young talent to join the team. He believes the team will only continue to get better. Jordan plans to continue bowling at Muskingum University while studying business.
“Stay composed. Don’t get frustrated over little mistakes,” he offered to the underclassmen.
