At their Oct. 17 win, the Armstrong girls volleyball team defeated the Latrobe Wildcats and clinched the WPIAL 3A section championship. “It takes the whole team to get every single point,” said Sophia DiGregorio, captain.

Joined by captain Kali Allensworth and seniors Eryn Savinda and Sarai Weaver the girls volleyball team has made history once again.
Sophia shared what her favorite memories are in her career playing volleyball for AHS — winning sections and all of the student section coming onto the court to celebrate, and the bus rides coming back home from a victory.
To bond, the team participates in wacky Wednesdays, where they celebrate a variety of different themes, such as blackout. They also spend time together outside of school, which helps maintain their healthy relationships with each other.
Sophia said that this year’s team chemistry great and that it has been one of the best years overall.
Sophia joined the volleyball team because her older sisters were members, and they made it to WPIALs as well. Her love for the sport has only grown since then.
Sophia is considering continuing her volleyball career upon graduating in the spring at either the University of Slippery Rock or the Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
Sophia predicts that the girls will be a winning team in the coming years, even though they will be losing two middles. Junior Bella Yancy will likely be libero based on the impact she has had on the team.
Sophia also stressed that the team will need underclassmen hitters.
Sophia told the underclassmen to “enjoy every minute” and give 110% when playing on the court in front of friends and family.
