Students in Mr. Cloak’s Advanced Placement American Government and Politics class and Mrs. Klingensmith’s Gifted Honors Government class hosted three political debates in the AHS auditorium in the month preceding the Nov. 7 general election for school board and county commissioner.

This year’s annual powderpuff football game is set to be a close matchup between the senior class of 2024 and the junior class of 2025.
Last year, the seniors (then juniors) defeated the class of 2023. The final score was 42-26. This year’s senior participants are determined to maintain their winning streak.

AWRCS is an offroad race series based out of Kittanning, Pennsylvania. The series travels from western Pennsylvania to eastern Ohio where they hold their races at. The race series has a multitude of different divisions with a Peewee (4-10), Youth (10-15) and Adult (no age limits) for both quad and dirtbike along with UTV, Pitbike and Pitquad. Being that the series is located in Kittanning, it's not a surprise that students from AHS participate in the racing.

Here at AHS, the possibilities are endless for elective courses. Two recent class additions in particular are proving to be a hit within the school. The Unified Family Consumer Science and Physical Education classes offer a chance for life skills students to work one-on-one with some of their peers that they would normally not have classes with. This opportunity allows students to dive into a teaching environment and step out of their comfort zones.
Day of The Dead (Día de los Muertos)

Instead of Halloween, many peoples of Mexico and Latin America celebrate the Day of the Dead, which is also known as “Día de los Muertos.” The holiday is celebrated on Nov. 1, Nov. 2, and other days such as Oct. 31 and Nov. 6. Día de los Muertos is celebrated to honor people’s local ancestors who have passed away, along with their family’s relatives.
Girls Golf Finishes Second in 3A Section and Seventh in WPIAL Finals

This year’s girls golf team had the lowest team score in Armstrong history. Additionally, they finished second in the 3A section and seventh in the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL) finals. In the finals, Autumn Tutak scored 90, Drew Starr 94, Mylee Lorigan 96, and Emma Paul 108.

Boys Golf Team Anticipates an Exciting 2024 Season as 2 Promising Underclassmen Rise in the Ranks

According to boys golf senior Adam Hooks, even though the boys golf team finished the season 0-20 with no wins, there were still a lot of positive takeaways.
First-year sophomore Jonas Miller concluded the season as the team’s low-man of the year, according to coach Gregory Hedglin. He finished with an average of 46.16. Junior Nick Kinter finished the season with an average of 46.18, and Adam Hooks finished with an average of 46.38.
2023 Boys Soccer Team Shatters Previous Records by 2 Wins

The soccer team under captains Landyn Johnson, Miles Stockdill, and Aidan Mccay have achieved the most section wins in a season, surpassing their previous record by two wins this year. The other seniors on the team this year are Martin Jocaille, Joseph Kachur, and Tyler Sanders.
The Future is Uncertain for Cross Country at AHS

Seniors Jacob Ralston and Cecilia (Cicy) Bowser spoke about the past, present, and future of cross country at AHS in an exclusive interview.
On team involvement, Jacob is worried that losing the seniors will impact the team negatively. Cross country will lose both himself and fellow senior Maddox Wise next year. If more guys don’t join the team, the possibility of its existence will be uncertain. The girls will also be losing senior Abigail Nemcheck.

Despite many close games and injuries, the River Hawks Junior High Girls Soccer Team is determined to take on the 2024 season.
Girls Volleyball Wins Section Title in Record-Breaking Season

At their Oct. 17 win, the Armstrong girls volleyball team defeated the Latrobe Wildcats and clinched the WPIAL 3A section championship. “It takes the whole team to get every single point,” said Sophia DiGregorio, captain.
Joined by captain Kali Allensworth and seniors Eryn Savinda and Sarai Weaver the girls volleyball team has made history once again.

In one word, Natalie Kamer described this year’s girls tennis season as “exciting,” despite the fact that she is the only senior tennis player and the team has had a lackluster season. It was a learning experience, she explained. The focus was on individual improvement and skill-building as opposed to winning.
