Armstrong’s Junior-Senior high school girl’s tennis seniors, Gianna Dobransky, Ava Schrecengost, Kendyl Porter, Paige Kilgore, and Vanessa Stroud, prepare as it is their last year on the tennis court.
The team is composed of “five seniors”, and “a lot of starters.” The first singles are “sophomores”, and that it is a pretty good mix, and with the seniors “the coach has been starting them a lot more”, Kendyl said.
Despite how the matches are played out, Kendyl added that “individuals and singles have won matches ”, but as a whole group we have not won matches.”
Senior, Kendyl Porter represented the other Armstrong’ Girls tennis seniors during the interview.
The team’s overall performance this year, “our team is doing the best, and a lot of the other schools have been playing for their whole life.” Additionally, Kendyl thinks “everyone has improved”, but in regards to preparation, Kendyl described it as “it’s not equal in regards to preparation.”
This is Kendyl’s “third year”, and for Paige Kilgore, Vanessa Stroud, Ava Schrecengost, and Gianna Dobransky, it is their “first” or “second year.”
Regarding the team for the future, Kendyl said, "I think a lot of people have potential, and that the underclassmen will improve in the next few years that they have.”
Kendyl’s favorite memories of being on the tennis team are “bus rides to away matches”, and “playing doubles with Delaney Bowser.” Plus, with the away match bus rides, she feels like, “everyone is excited for the bus rides”, and with the away game bus rides, she gets to talk more to her teammates.
When it comes to strategies for the games, “Not everyone has many experiences but we try to figure out the best ways to win the game”, Kendyl said.
Kendyl’s advice to any upcoming players in the future is, to “go to summer practice, and to practice on your own.” Plus, “It helps a lot in preparing for the new season”, Kendyl added.
