When will I receive my salary?

As a permanent employee (ED), your salary for the current month is automatically transferred to your bank account by the end of the month.

💡Please note: Only the payroll period for mileage allowance and plus hours refers to the period around the 25th of the previous month to the 24th of the current month. Read more about that below!

What is a payslip and how is it structured?

The monthly payslip serves as proof of your income at foodora.

You will receive this every month via email at the same time you receive your salary!

On your payslip, you'll find your monthly hours (weekly hours x 4.33 weeks per month on average). Your wages are based on the collective agreement (hourly rate) or may exceed it, depending on the arrangement.

Additionally, you may receive a mobile phone allowance of up to €20 per month, intended for the use of your private phone for business purposes. This allowance is prorated based on your working hours.

Mileage and tips are also visible on the payslip, with the following to note:

Because we transfer your wages a few days before the end of the month, we cannot consider certain amounts for the entire month (e.g., 01/01 - 01/31) since we may not know the exact values yet. Therefore, you often find the amount "Nachtrag Vormonat" on your payslip, which compensates you retrospectively for mileage, tips, special benefits, and supplements earned during the last days of the respective previous month.

⚡️For example: If you earned mileage or tips between 01/24 and 01/31, you will receive this with the monthly billing at the end of February.

How am I insured as a permanent employee?

Every foodora Rider is covered by accident and liability insurance during the shift. Regardless of your contract type, you are automatically registered with the Austrian Regional Health Insurance Fund (ÖGK).

As a permanent employee, you also have the following insurances:

Social Security: Social security contributions apply if your salary is above the marginal earnings threshold of €518,44. Pension, unemployment insurance and full health insurance are deducted from your salary (approx. 15%).

Accident insurance: Covers the costs of first aid and treatment for injuries caused at work, as well as the costs of rehabilitation, recovery and prostheses. Accident insurance also pays compensation in the event of incapacity for work. You are also insured on your direct route to work if you have an accident there.

Liability insurance: Covers the costs of most damages to third parties that occurs during a shift (depending on different factors).

What is the marginal earnings threshold?

The marginal earnings threshold is €518.44 per month (2024). If your monthly salary exceeds this limit, it becomes subject to income tax and social security. Staying below the threshold means: gross = net salary. Regardless of your employment type, you are automatically registered with the Austrian Regional Health Insurance Fund (ÖGK) and therefore covered by accident and liability insurance during your shift.

💡Your monthly salary can differ, depending on tips and mileage allowance. This means that we cannot guarantee that you stay below the threshold by working less than 15 hours.

When must my earnings be lower than the marginal earnings threshold?

Earnings can be lower in the first and last month of a contract, depending on your entry or exit date.

⚡️For example, if your contract begins on December 21, you are able to work for only 10 days in December, and you must calculate the minimal threshold proportionally:
€518.44 / 30 days x 10 days = €172.81 - This is the amount you must not exceed for the month of December.
The full €518.44 will be considered again in January if you were employed for the entire month (30 days).

💡For payment matters, a month is always calculated with 30 days, regardless of the actual number of days in the current month.

How can I calculate the aliquot threshold by myself?

Use the following calculation to know your aliquot marginal earnings limit:

(see also the example above)

How do online tips work?

Customers can easily give you an online tip in the foodora app.

💡You can check your online tip at any time in the Rider app under Recent Orders

Are my online and cash tips subject to social security?

You must declare the tip that you receive in cash. Just like the online tip, it is subject to social security contributions. This is a legal requirement and means that we have to deduct social security contributions from both your online and cash tips (no income tax!).

You will receive an e-mail every month with a link to a google form from. Please enter your cash tips there in good time.

Do tips add up to marginal earnings threshold?

Yes, even for permanent employees (ED), online tips and all bonuses count towards the marginal earnings threshold of €518.44 per month.

What happens to my taxes?

The marginal earnings threshold is €518.44 per month (2024). If your monthly salary exceeds this limit, it becomes subject to income tax and social security. Staying below the threshold means: gross = net salary. Regardless of your employment type, you are automatically registered with the Austrian Regional Health Insurance Fund (ÖGK) and therefore covered by accident and liability insurance during your shift.
