Division 2 La Serna arrived for the very last Del Rio League head-to-head meet today, defeating the AquaDons 135-35.
The AquaDons went 0-3 in RELAYS (6-36pts) and 0-8 in INDIVIDUALS (29-99pts), but two shining moments saved El Rancho from the sweep. The first moment came from Senior and Co-Captain Devin Clardy, who managed to take 3rd place in the 50 Free. Devin spent the first half of the race bunched together with the second and third La Serna Freestylers. Coming out of the turn, the second Lancer came up about half a body's length in front of Devin, while the third Lancer faltered a little at the turn. This provided Devin the opportunity keep his lead all the way into the finish. Mateo Ramirez, who just outtouched teammate Jared Gonzalez, almost caught the 4th place Lancer, but just fell short of making a comeback.
The second moment came from Freshman Dominic Ramos in the 100 Breast. Dominic had a clean start, putting him about a heads-length behind the first two Lancers, but in front of their third swimmer. Dominic took a good first turn and stayed in roughly the same position for the 2nd 25 segment of the race. Coming out of the next turn, Dominic's pace quickened and he pulled even with the La Serna 1-2 at the wall. Dominic maintained excellent form on his underwater pulls off the wall, and surfaced ahead of the competition by a head-lengths and wasted no time in charging through the last 25yds and posting the AquaDons solo victory. Although Dominic took the lion's share of the points, the Lancers still won the event by a score of 9-7.
