Dons Continue to Drop Times

Adriana Lopez continues to drop times in her 100 Breaststroke with a 4 second drop this week. Lorelei Rojo put another mark on the Girls' School Record book with her 200 IM swim today. Her 2:33.57 time places her squarely into the 2nd fastest at El Rancho, just behind Angie Martinez's (2016) #1 time of 2:18.60. This time pushes Ashlie Meza, Christina Espinoza, and Marissa Lopez, one spot down the list of Top 5 school swims, with former El Rancho, current Ellen Ochoa Math Teacher Abigail Martinez time off the list.

Sophomore Castor Villegas dropped time in three events today, a massive 5 second drop in the 200 Free and 2 seconds in the 100 Breast. He finished the day with a 3 second drop in the 1oo Free, inching closer to breaking the minute. His classmate, Eduardo Plata, also double dropped with a 7 second drop in the 500 Free and 2 seconds in the 50 Free.  Raphichy Olvera also had a 2 second drop in the 100 Backstroke. Senior Henry Zepeda also dropped in two events, besting his 50 Free by two seconds from earlier in the season, and 2 seconds on his 100 Breaststroke.

El Rancho swimmers are slowly returning to the form they displayed last year against Bell Gardens and Montebello. Not only has COVID interrupted that pace, but the lack of a functioning pool stripped away their pre-season build up. El Rancho Swimmers have been limited to 2-3 practices a week at Pioneer HS pool because of facility problems at The Ranch. Over its 70 years, there have been a few equipment upgrades. It's had a good run, especially for a facility that was not in the original designs of the school, and was added on after the fact... and by alternate funding.

Our Dons flashed a few moments today, but California High was just quicker. Girls Varsity lost 35-109 and Boys Varsity lost 51-111.
