As with many of our dual meets, the size and depth of our team put us at a disadvantage in the overall scoring but we still had a majority of our kids drop times and set new Personal Records (PRs)... and we snuck in a few medals too! In all levels, we took 5th place.
Remember, to qualify for Finals, you needed to be in the top-12 for Varsity and the top-6 for JV. Everyone, from 1st to 12th, scores points, but only the top-6 get medals. Since there are only 5 teams in the league, if you are on a relay team, you medal as long as you don't DQ. We put our best foot forward in all three relays, sending the same team - Daniel Bautista, Robert Robles, Devin Clardy, and Fernando Antonio. The team took 5th in the Medley Relay, 5th in the 200 Free Relay, but defied the odds and placed 3rd in the 400 Free Relay. Being in all three relays limited the team to having only 1 individual event. Fernando Antonio opted for the 200 Free and took 8th. Robert Robles took 11th in the 50 Free and Isaac Mejia joined him for 12th. Daniel Bautista, our sole individual medalist, took 6th in the 100 Fly, an event he took 10th in the year before. Isaac Mejia returned for the 100 Free, with Mateo Ramirez joining him, and they took 9th and 11th respectively. Mateo added the 500 Free to his meet sheet and placed 8th. Devin Clardy chose his sole individual event to be the 100 Breast, and he took 9th in his first ever Finals.
Our four man relay swimmers grabbed the lion's share of points for the team, giving them each 64 points. Its what they did in their individual events that separated them on the score sheet. Bautista's 6th place in the 100 Fly earned him nine more points for a total of 73. Fernando's work in the 200 Free brings him to a total of 69 points. Devin's first ever DRL season and Final was good for 4 points, bringing his total to 68. Robert Robles, with his final performance as an AquaDon, earned a total of 66 points. Mateo Ramirez put up 7 points with Isaac Mejia surprising us all with 5 points, totaling 12 points and clearing his Varsity letter/post League Final by 2 points. Isaac surprised us all because most of his season was spent at the coaches' table keeping score while on academic suspension. But with his grades back in the clear, Issac's PR swimms got him into top-12 and his chance to earn the points he needed.
Fernando Antonio bested his last PR by -1.1 sec in the 200 Free. He also dropped -1.76 seconds in his portion of the 200 Relay and -0.92 sec in the 400 Relay.
Mateo Ramirez made his PRs getting into Finals, as his team mate Jared Gonzalez (the 50/100 Free).
Danny Bautista shed -1.27 sec in his 200 Relay and a big -2.8sec in his 400 Relay, finally going sub-60. Teammate and fellow Senior Robert Robles also used the Relays to drop times, -1.42 sec in the 200 Relay and -1.40 sec in the 400 Relay.
Devin Clardy shredded -2.7 sec in his 400 Relay
