Boys Varsity Swimming falls to Schurr 107 – 62

AquaDons 62-107 Spartans

Boys Varsity lead during the first three events, but two clean sweeps give the win to the Spartans.

The AquaDons took 1st and 3rd in the 200 Medley Relay, 1st in the 200 Free (David T), and 1st in the 200 IM (Michael M), to lead 24-22 after three events. Castor V and Christian E went 2nd and 4th respectively in a close 50 Free, when the Spartans swept 1-2-3 in the 100 Fly and 100 Free. With those 3-13 point results, the AquaDons fell behind 36-57. Jeremy A, in the 500 Free, dropped 10 seconds in a strong 3rd place effort, stopping the streak of sweeps. David T and Michael M again take 1st in the 100 Back and 100 Breast, with the 400 Free A team taking 2nd place to finish the meet.

David T unofficially recorded CIF SS Div IV automatic times in both of his swims today and along with Seniors Raphichy O and Castor V, and fellow Junior Jeremy A, turned in a 200 Medley Relay auto time as well. With other swimmers breaking through with unofficial Consideration Times, this “team without a pool” looks to return to CIF in the Spring.

With the promotion of two swimmers to Varsity, the JV ranks were reduced to five swimmers. Sophomore Ben Rodriguez was the highlight, earning two 2nd place results in the 50 and 100 Free, as well as anchoring the 200 Free Relay’s 2nd place result. JV is the place to learn, and we are starting to see our newer swimmers applying the techniques learned in practice. With only 11 practices, due to the loss of the home pool, our only city pool, and the county pool not opening its doors to us, its difficult for our newer swimmers to let those lessons sink in. Most events only saw one AquaDon competing, leaving the final tally JV 25-101 Spartans.
