Boys Varsity Swimming beats Santa Fe 107 – 60

AquaDons 107-60 Chiefs

The AquaDons took 9 event wins, 1 draw, and 1 loss in their 107-60 point victory. Of those 9 wins, Jeremy Alonso & Gio Cabrera took 1st-2nd in the 100 Fly, and the 400 Free Relay “A” Team & “B” Team did so as well. Michael Matchan, Raphichy Olvera, and Vincent Mejia swept the 200 IM.

The only loss came in the 200 Free Relay, where only one of our teams scored points. The draw was a result of a 1st & 4th placing for Castor Villegas and Christian Elias, who was just out-touched. But by that time, the Aquadons had already built a 21 point lead.

The 100 Breast was the closest contest of the meet, although the 11-5 point scoreline doesn’t do it justice. Michael Matchan controlled the race from the beginning, and Raphichy Olvera and Vincent Mejia were locked in a battle with 2 Santa Fe swimmers. After 50 yards, one of the Chiefs dropped back, leaving the two Aquadons battling for third place points. Olvera pulled away in the 3rd leg of the race, leaving Mejia go stroke for stroke, only to out touch his opponent and lock up 4th place.

10 Varsity swimmers earned new Personal Bests (PBs) today. Most notibly Cincent Mejia’s 14 second drop in 200 IM and Gio Eguao’s 15 second drop in the 500.

Boys JV had little to no competition in their 70-15 victory. 1st year Senior Timothy Ramirez dropped 28 seconds in his 100 and 50 freestyles, while Robert Robles shaved 3 seconds off his 100 IM.
