Third Sweep In A Row

For the third meet in a row, all four AquaDon teams have snatched victory from their opponents.

JV Girls lost the first relay 6-8, but then swept the 200 Free (13-3) and continued to earn double digit points for 8 or the remaining 11 events. Final score 100-51.

JV Boys opened with a 12-0 Medley Relay and continued to earn double digit victories until the 200 Free Relay and 100 Back. Final score 108-29.

Varsity Girls were on a topsy turvy ride for the first events, being -2 at the end of the first event, +4 at the end of the second, -3 after the 200 IM, -1 after the 50 Free, +7 after the 50 Free.  Their victory clinching event was the 13-0 win in the 500. From that point on, the Girls Team put their foot down on the pedal to go on a 50-22 run. Final Score 98-69.

Varsity Boys started with a 10-4 victory in the Medley Relay, and never looked back going on to score 111 points to 30. The boys swept the podium spots for the 200 IM and 100 Fly. It was during that 100 Fly that gave us a moment to see how focused the boys were. Montebello did not have any swimmers scheduled to compete in the Fly, but three Oilers lined up on the blocks and off they went. We didn't realize the situation until we noticed the Oilers' team were all swimming the wrong stroke. They were suppose to swim in the next event, the 100 Freestyle, but had gotten up on the blocks 4 races too early. The Oilers swam Freestyle against the Dons swimming Butterfly. But it didn't phase the Dons one bit. They put their head down and went stroke for stroke and still finished 1-2. It was a mental victory as much as it was an actual victory. Because of the DQ, Victor Villegas, Rodrigo Osorio, and Henry Zepeda chalked up a 13-0 win. Final score 121-34.

The AquaDons next competition won't be until next Saturday, March 14, as they enter the Rowland Raider Invitational. This meet traditionally provides swimmers an opportunity to show coaches what they can do in events they don't normally swim in.
