The Blue v Grey Swim Meet is a Don vs Don competition to see where our swimmers stand at the start of the competition season. We've had 6-weeks behind us and its time to take stock of what swimmers can do and where they need some additional training. Senior Devin Clardy and Junior Fernando Antonio were deputized as leader of Blue and Grey teams, respectively. Teams were selected by sorting swimmers by our February 2nd time trial and distributed in an A-B-B-A-A-B-B-A pattern. In addition to leading their respective teams, Devin and Fernando selected their teammates' events.
But the "best laid plans of mice and men" sometimes run afoul. We had two members of the Blue team and a member of the Grey team unable to compete due to non-sport issues. This is an inevitble in life, and we bent the rules a little in this Don v Don meet. Some swimmers had to swim twice in the same relay.
Looking at the attached meet results, you can follow the score progression for each team and each swimmer's placing. If you are new to competative swimming are need a primer on scoring, you can read one here.
Swimmers' placement into Varsity and JV were based on the most recent 50yd Free time trials, and are not permanent. Bottom four of each team were designated JV, the rest were Varsity. Each week, 12-14 swimmers will be selected for the Varsity team based on the needs of the meet. I would say the fastest-12, but a swimmer that might be toward the bottom will make the team sheet on the strength of a specific event (200 IM or 100 Breast). What it boils down to is... nothing is set in stone. Every swimmer has the opportunity, week in and week out, to continue to improve, and earn a spot on the Varsity team. And if there are other issues that are out of our control, it may give a hard working swimmer an opportunity to earn some Varsity points.
Congrats to JV Boys Blue team 54-44 win and to Varsity Boys Grey Team on their 58-47 win.
