62-104 Dons 2nd Best To The Wall

Lethargic Swims With a Few Silver Linings

Swimming is a peak performance competition. Did you eat correctly? Sleep? How's your mentality? Overtraining or under-training? Are you trying a new event? Lots of things need to line up to break through that wall. So... sometimes you just got to put your head down and grind out a swim. As a coach, you always want to win. And if you don't win, you want to keep it close. And if its not close, keep them from scoring over 100 points/try to score at least 50. And ALWAYS... ALWAYS look for the silver linings.

Medley Relay: Another CIF Auto time! We have been consistently doing it, so as long as everyone is keeping grades up, we should be headed to CIF to try to improve on last year's 4th place finish.

200 Free: Gio Cabrera posted his Personal Best for the Season (PBS) taking 2nd place. Robert Robles also swam his PBS.

200 IM: With Danny Bautista competing for HOSA (Future Health Professionals), Michael Matchan stepped in. Mikey was third through the first two legs of the race, and dropped the hammer during the 50 breast leg of the race, obliterating  Whittier's #2 swimmer's 15-yard lead to take 2nd place, putting up his PBS.

50 Free: Jay Vera just missed a CIF CON time and took 2nd place!

100 Fly: Jeremy Alonso took 2nd and posted his PBS and a CON time. Ismael Juarez posted his PBS.

100 Free: David Tarazon took 1 of only 2 ER first place finishes, posting a CON time that was just 2 seconds from AUTO! This was also the only race we won 9-7, with the help of his team mate Jay Vera, who took 3rd in a tight race.

500 Free: Jeremy Alonso took 2nd. This was Ismael Juarez's first attempt at the 500, so he posted his PBS.

200 Free Relay: The "A Team" posted a CON time that was 3 seconds shy of an AUTO time, taking 2nd place.

100 Back: David Tarazon took the other 1st place finish with a commanding 15-20 yard lead on his opponent. Fausto Gonzalez swam his first 100 Back and posted a PBS, taking 5th and earning a point for the team.

100 Breast: Michael Matchan took 2nd, in a race almost too close to call. This one will be a race to watch during Del Rio League Finals. Mikey made a CON time, was 3 seconds shy of AUTO, and is only 1 sec from the #5 School Record. Vincent Mejia took third. Nico Gonzalez, the first year senior, put up his PBS.

4oo Free Relay: The team took 2nd. Vincent had another sub-minute swim while Jeremy Alonso just missed his 2nd sub-min swm by 33/100ths of a sec.

Individual Points:

David Tarazon 20/30, Jeremy Alonso 16/30, Michael Matchan 16/30, Jay Vera 15/30, Vincent Mejia 13/30, Giovanni Cabrera 9/30, Robert Robles 6/30, Ismael Juarez 2/12, Fausto Gonzalez 1/12, Nicholai Gonzalez 0/20.
