Good Morning!

Happy Tuesday Nursery! Miss Bailey enjoyed seeing some of you on our Google Meets session yesterday, and was really impressed with your phonic knowledge and number recognition! You should all feel really proud of yourselves!

We hope you are ready for another great day of learning! Please see below for today's video!

Click on Scrap to go to his map. Can you find the letter for this week?

Phonics

Yesterday we started learning a new letter 'c'.

Watch the video below which recaps on some of the letters we already know and continues to explore the letter 'c'. Afterwards you can watch the Alphablocks video about 'c'.

English

We are really pleased with how well your name writing is developing at home! Today we would like you to practice overwriting your name first, then write it yourself using your name card for support. Remember to only use a capital letter at the beginning of your name, and use the SNAPPY CROCODILE to make sure you are holding the pencil correctly!

Over the coming weeks, we are going to be focussing on a range of traditional tales. This week's story is 'The Ugly Duckling'. Some of you will remember this story as we have read it at school before.

Click on the link opposite to listen to the story.

After you have listened to the story, you can tell your grown up all about it by getting them to ask you these questions:

  1. What happened in the story?

  2. Who is your favourite character in the story and why?

  3. What is your favourite part of the story and why?

  4. Did you like the story and why?

After you have listened to the story and answered the questions, you can watch 'The Ugly Duckling Song' video.

Maths

Today's 'Number of the Day' is 4. 4 is an even number. Complete a 'Number of the Day' sheet from your new work pack, focussing on number 4.

Afterwards you can watch the Numberblocks number 4 video!

Number of the day

Numberblocks - Number 4

Today in maths we are going to begin to compare two groups and decide which group has more and which has less. To be able to do this, it is really important that our knowledge and understanding of counting, number recognition and ordering numbers from 0-10 is secure.

To begin, practice counting up to 10, then back from 10 to 0. Ask a grown up to show you numbers at random from 0-10. Can you name them? Try ordering these numbers from 0 up to 10 and keep them in this ordered number line as you will need it to help you today.

Now look carefully at these pictures of the castles and the flowers. We need to find out are there more castles or flowers. The first step is to count the castles - there are 4. Next we count the flowers - there are 9. Which number is bigger, 4 or 9? You can use the number line you have made to help you.

Did you work out the answer? 9 is a bigger number than 4, so that means there are more flowers!

Next, look at the pictures of the lollipops and the dogs. This time we are going to work out which group contains fewer (or less). Can you count the lollipops, then the dogs. The group with the smaller number is the group that contains fewer.

I counted 2 lollipops and 4 dogs. 2 is a smaller number, this means the group of lollipops contains fewer than the group of dogs.

Now that you have practiced finding 'more' and 'fewer' or 'less', you can play 'Teddy's Toyshop'! On each slide there are two sets of toys. Use your 1:1 counting skills to count each group of toys and decide which toy there are 'more' or 'fewer' of. Remember, the group with the larger amount of toys will have MORE; the group with the smaller amount will have FEWER or LESS! Good luck!

We hope you enjoyed playing that game, and it has helped develop your understanding of more and less. Your final maths task today is to complete the two 'More or Less?' colouring pages in your new work pack. On the first page, count each group and colour the groups that have MORE. On the second page, count each group and colour the groups that contains LESS. If you have been unable to collect your pack from school, you can print the pages by clicking the link on the right hand side.

Afternoon Activity - Expressive Arts

We hope you enjoyed 'The Ugly Duckling' story this morning! This afternoon, you are going to get creative, making a craft or picture of the ugly duckling! You can decide whether to make the duckling or the swan, and take a look at some craft ideas below. You may have some old boxes you could use, or perhaps some play dough or plastercine to make a duck or swan model!

If you haven't got materials available to make a craft, you could paint or draw the duck or swan! We love seeing your creations, so send us a picture of your finished creation on EvidenceMe!

Story Time!

Today we are reading another well known story by Janet and Allan Ahlberg called 'Burglar Bill'. We hope you enjoy this funny story. What is your favourite part?

Don't forget we love to see your lovely learning on EvidenceMe, or get your grown ups to email us pictures of all your hard work!

Grown Ups if you need us, please don't hesitate to contact us via email.
