Good Morning!

We really enjoyed seeing you all on our whole class Google Meets session yesterday! We hope that you enjoyed it too! Please see today's video below!

Click the tree for today's Collective Worship
Click on Scrap to go to his map. Can you find the letter for this week?

Phonics

Today your phonics task is to play I-Spy. Have a careful look at the pictures below. What can you see that starts with 'g'? Click on Scrap to re-watch the Espresso video.

Name each image. What sound does it start with?

The first writing activity today is your name writing! Find your name card and overwrite your name, thinking carefully about where each letter starts, and the direction your pen should be moving in. Next you can write your name independently in the space underneath.

This week we read a 'Percy the Park Keeper' story, and have been thinking about Percy's job looking after the animals. Do you have a pet? If you do, what do you have to do to look after it? If you don't have a pet, perhaps another family member or a friend does. Think about what they do for their pet.

Today, watch the Espresso video below about taking care of pets, then read through the PowerPoint with your grown up. Can you tell your grown up the types of things that different pets need? For example, a dog needs a lead so that it can be taken out on walks; a rabbit needs a hutch to live in.

After you have talked about what a pet needs to lead a happy and healthy life, choose one to draw in your workbook. Can you hear the initial sound of your pet? Write it down! Next, think of three things your pet needs and record the initial sounds of these words!

Maths

Today we will be learning about symmetry. If something has symmetry, we say it is 'symmetrical'. This means that it is exactly the same on both sides. Have a look at the pictures below and talk to your grown up about how they are exactly the same on both sides.

These pictures are all exactly the same on both sides.

This means that they are SYMMETRICAL.

Click onto the game 'Symmetry Painter', to create your own symmetrical pictures. This will help you gain a more thorough understanding of symmetry.

Once you have played the game, have a look around your home for things that are the same on one side as they are on the other. For example, I noticed that my glasses, and my glass of water looked exactly the same on both sides if I drew an imaginary line of symmetry down the middle of them.

Finally, we would like you to make your own symmetrical butterfly. It is easiest to do this using paint, as you only need to paint a pattern onto one wing - you can then fold it over and press it down onto the other wing. When you open it up you will see a symmetrical pattern! See the picture instructions below.

However, if you don't have any paints, you can decorate one wing with pens, crayons or pencils, then try to decorate exactly the same pattern onto the other wing. This is a bit trickier but give it your best go!

You can send your super symmetrical butterflies to us via email or EvidenceMe!

Afternoon Activity

To gain a really good understanding of symmetry, we would like you to create your own symmetrical pattern on the table or floor, using objects from around your house. First of all lay out your line of symmetry using something like a piece of string; a ruler or a rolled up towel. Once you have created your line, you can collect things you want to use in your pattern. This can be lots of different things (as long as you have at least two of each), or one thing such as lego bricks or pasta shapes.

Have a look at some example pictures below. You may need a grown up to help you with this tricky activity, but give it your best go, and as ever, we would love to see pictures of your symmetrical patterns!

Story Time!

Here is another fantastic Percy the Park Keeper story by Nick Butterworth. Today's story is called 'The Rescue Party'. We hope that you enjoy it! Can you tell a grown up what the story was about?

Don't forget we love to see your lovely learning on EvidenceMe, or get your grown ups to email us pictures of all your hard work!

Grown Ups if you need us, please don't hesitate to contact us via email.
