Good Morning!

We really enjoyed seeing you all on our whole class Google Meets session yesterday! We hope that you enjoyed it too! Please see today's video below!

Click the tree for today's Collective Worship
Click on Scrap to go to his map. Can you find the letter for this week?

Phonics

Today you can re-cap our sound of the week 'c' by watching Scrap's video again, or sing the Jolly Phonics song.

Today we're going to make silly soup! Remember to make silly soup we put in as many different things that we can find that start with the sound 'c'.

We mix them altogether and sing the silly soup song (to the tune of 'Pop Goes the Weasel')

I'm making silly soup,

I'm making soup that's silly.

I'm going to cook it in the fridge,

to make it nice and chilly!

Brrrrrrrr!

Can you make a bowl of silly soup at your house with things that start with 'c'?

OPTIONAL ACTIVITY: In your work book draw a bowl with the different ingredients you put in your soup. Try and label them - even if you can only hear the first sound!

English

The first writing activity today is your name writing! Find your name card and overwrite your name, thinking carefully about where each letter starts, and the direction your pen should be moving in. Next you can write your name independently in the space underneath.

We hope that you have enjoyed reading 'The Ugly Duckling' story this week. Yesterday you thought about your favourite character. Today, you are going to think about your favourite part of the story, and why you like it. For example, my favourite part of the story is when the farmer finds the Ugly Duckling and keeps him safe until the Spring. I like this part best because the farmer is kind and makes the Ugly Duckling feel safe and cared for.

Go back to Tuesday's blog post and listen to the story again. Afterwards, you can find your favourite part and look carefully at the picture. Tell your grown up why you like this part best. Next, draw this picture in your book. Remember to think carefully about the shapes you are drawing and the colours you use. Underneath your picture your grown up can write "This is my favourite part of the story because...", and you can complete the sentence by writing the initial sounds and any other sounds you can hear in the words.

Maths

We are continuing to focus on even numbers today, and our 'Number of the Day' is 8! Complete a 'Number of the Day' sheet from your workpack, focussing on number 8. Next, you can watch the Numberblocks 8 video!

Number of the Day

Numberblocks - Number 8

On Tuesday we began exploring 'more' and 'less' or 'fewer'. You looked at groups of objects and counted them to decide which group had more or less. Remember, that a group with a bigger number of objects has MORE; a group with a smaller number of objects has LESS/FEWER.

You are going to build upon the skills learnt on Tuesday, to compare more groups, and also think about when two groups have the SAME amount of objects.

Start today's session by looking through the 'Comparing Groups' slides with a grown up. There are groups of toys shown on the first slide for you to discuss and compare.

Grown ups - you can encourage mathematical discussion and reasoning by encouraging your child to talk about what they can find in the picture. Examples of questions you could ask include:

  • Are there more big teddy bears or small teddy bears?

  • Which shelf contains the most toys?

  • Which tower contains the fewest bricks?

Now that you have revisited the concept of more or less, you are going to play a card game with your grown up! Print off the More or Less and Question cards below. Using both sets of cards, your grown up is going to show you two cards at a time and ask you a question, for example: "Which card has more animals?" You can use your 1:1 counting skills to point to each animal on each card to find the totals. You know that the card displaying the bigger number of animals is the card that has 'more'.

Grown ups - to support your child's understanding of comparing numbers and quantities, encourage them to talk about the concepts of 'more' and 'fewer' and to practise counting groups of objects in different arrangements, as well as using the cards for a comparing and matching game. The question cards are designed to stimulate and support discussion and questioning.

Afternoon Activity

Message for grown ups:

If your child is taking part in the live sessions today, you will have completed the RE lesson on Monday. If your child took part in Monday's live sessions, please complete RE today!

After the live session, your child can complete an activity from the self choice chart if they wish!

This half term in RE, we are going to spend the beginning part of the term looking at the Creation Story. This is that way that Christian's believe that God created the world.

Christian's believe that God created the world in 7 days, each day creating something special in the world. Watch this video to see some of the different things that God created in the word.

When you have finished you can complete the colouring sheet (below and in your Home Learning packs), talking to your grown up about some of the things that God created in the world.

Story Time!

We hope that you have enjoyed listening to the Janet and Allan Ahlberg stories this week. Which one has been your favourite so far? Today's story is called 'FunnyBones'! We hope you enjoy it!

Don't forget we love to see your lovely learning on EvidenceMe, or get your grown ups to email us pictures of all your hard work!
