Heat Energy in a Peanut

    1. Shell a raw peanut (whole is best) and measure its mass

    2. Put it on the end of a pin or unwound paper clip

    3. Fill a test tube with about 20-50 ml of water and measure its temperature

    4. Light the peanut and try to keep it on fire asap

    5. Use it (not the match) to heat the water. Ok to relight it

    6. Measure the ending mass of the peanut and temperature of the water

    7. Calculate calories captured using calculations as shown

    8. Discuss results, sources of error, and implications of findings.
