Coupla Things v17 (12/22/12)

Hi Families.
Yesterday was quite a blast throughout the middle school alley -- games, food, movies, gift exchanges, and even a bit of work being done in some classes. As always, the kids, teachers, and parents celebrated well. I've learned to never underestimate the willingness of so many parents to do their part (and more) to help out. I set up a "party page" and sent out two messages and from there, the party just naturally unfolded. On top of that, the kindess of families manifested itself in wonderful gifts and cards. DCS is a gift to me that I appreciate on a daily basis. What an amazing place to work!
There was a bit of work accomplished this week as well:
more great student demos,
an exploration of a magazine on simple machines,
a wireless-remote quiz (and an introduction to how/why teachers sometimes grade on a curve),
phase one of our Interest-Based Mini Courses
and (finally) the conclusion of the machine project (students, please review the grading criteria)
Coming Up:
Over the next two weeks I will be scoring the machine projects (#6 above) and finally getting around to reading the Fall science experiment lab reports that were turned in months ago. When we get back from vacation we'll be getting into chemistry, starting with a unit on atoms and elements. Until then, enjoy sleep, family, and weather.
