Coupla Things v26 (3/18/16)

Post date: Mar 15, 2016 11:56:11 PM

Hi All. Ok, its 23 minutes until midnight so this "weekend update" newsletter is pushing the timing limit. Maybe I can get it sent before Monday chimes in.

1. Google trip recap: Wow, was this a fantastic experience! More than just a gawk session focussing on the things that spoil Googlers, our tour guides and the kids' (and parents and my) questions pointed out just how important it is for a person to learn constantly, pursue the hard problems, and challenge themselves. This week the kids will be writing thank-you "cards" (slides) which I hope will contain specifics and sincerity.

2. Speaking of trips, we'll be doing a trip to Levi Stadium on Monday, March 28. I entered their field trip lottery system last Spring but didn't get a slot (Superbowl = high demand), but a few days ago I got an email saying that there was an opening, so I checked in quickly with Dan and Bonnie and jumped on it. I requested the interactive lesson that focusses on the media & communications aspect of game day and I'm hoping that we'll be able to particpate in control-room activities.

3. Science fair final prep: By Wednesday, each kid should have their trifold done and it should draw in an audience, describe their experiment (or project), explain their findings, and propose further questions. Please be the guinea pig for your student as they create & practice their presentation. It should be understandable to an audience of diverse age and interest level.

4. My time's up. Thanks for reading!
