In order to study the millions of different species on this planet science has had to establish and constantly improve upon a common and complete system of classification. The unit begins with observing subtle differences between objects and then grouping them according to common characteristics, Next, we focused on understanding the present taxonomic system including characteristics of kingdoms, phyla, and their progressive subgroups. Using identification keys to find scientific names gave us an appreciation of the logic embedded in the Latin classification system.
