Coupla Things v37 (5/3/12)

Post date: Jun 03, 2012 8:24:14 PM

It is a beautiful Sunday afternoon. Yard is clean, beach has been visited, and grades are done... time now to turn to the almost-last weekly newsletter. The more that I sense the kids eagerness to leave the home of DCS and move on, the more I feel myself protesting "wait, don't leave yet, I barely know you". I've grown much with this class and am a better person for the lessons that they've taught me. I hope the inverse is true as well.

Recap of the week.

English: Book club meetings and quizzes on Tuesday, Twelfth Night on Wednesday, Sherlock Holmes on Thursday -- quick week.

Science: Astronomy game playing (and improvements) and grading all week.

Upcoming:

1. As a part of the graduation event, there will be students "I Am" poems on display in the lobby of Westgate Church. The kids will write those on Monday morning and I am eager to see a mature level of insight and reflection that these writings should educe.

2. Human Growth and Development videos and discussions are planned for the early part of the week. I've listed the topics and given links to the videos on the HGD page of my site, but much of the tone and value will be dependent upon the student's questions and subsequent discussions.

3. Student-run party games. There will be some chunks of time during this coming week that are available for us to play some games and do fun activities -- think party games. I'll show some samples on Monday and give kids the chance to sign up to plan and run an activity.

Enjoy the rest of the day and these next few very valuable days.

Love,

Chris
