Workshop

One of the major service projects for this class will be the construction of a workshed in which to store materials, tools, and projects underway. The roll-up door option will allow it to be used for workspace as well.

Here is a donation request letter that I wrote to the Sunnyvale Home Depot on 1/24/2011:

To: Peter Mullen, Operations Manager Home Depot store 0640

Fr: Chris Heumann, Teacher, Discovery Charter School

Good evening Peter and thank you for meeting with me at your store tonight. I know that store managers are extremely busy and I appreciate your time. Our school, Discovery Charter School (tax id #37-1509106) has started a middle school woodshop class and we are eager to partner with your store to help students build their woodworking skills and appreciation. We would like to purchase materials for a work shed from your store as well as some tools (hand and power) during the next few weeks. Any donation/discount amount would be crucial to the success of the program.

The work shed will be 4'x12' and I've estimated materials costs at $950 (worksheet here).

The tools that are of most immediate need are a jigsaw (Bosch 5 amp @ $129) and an impact driver (DeWalt 18v @ $249)

This link goes to the class website and I'd be thrilled to post a notice of appreciation to Home Depot as well as recommend that our parents shop your store. I am also taking pictures of the students at work on their projects and could (with parent permission) make copies for you to post on your store's bulletin board along with their letters of appreciation.

Thank you for your consideration,

Chris Heumann
