Coupla Things wk24 (3/4/17)
Post date: Mar 04, 2018 10:28:39 PM
Hello Sunny Sunday!
The rain of the past few days is much needed, but I sure do like waking up to clear skies and fresh green grass popping up everywhere and a much needed layer or snow up in the Sierras. I just read my newsletter from last year at this time and remembered the downed trees, mudslides, and multi-day closures of highway 17.
Thing 1: Science Work Packet
On Friday the kids dredged up all of the papers from the past 8 weeks of science and assembled it into a forces and motion unit work packet. The cover sheet shows their scores and calculation of the unit's overall percentage and the (should be) 25 sheets of paper attached to it can be the foundation for some discussion with your kid about things they hopefully learned (subject matter, curiosity cultivation, and/or work habits/organization). I added my comment to their cover sheet this weekend and will return the packets on Monday. Parents, please add your comment under that of your kid and mine and then have them return the packet to school on Tuesday. This is the second of five work packets that will undergo this process this year.
Thing 2: Fundraiser Updates
Laps for Learning donation envelopes should be returned to class tomorrow March 5. If you kid has not yet approached you about this, please just hand them a ten-spot and give them that ol' "your responsibility..." look. Envelope or not, we're hoping that each kid makes a pride-worthy contribution in a "pay it forward" spirit. In addition to that, the Family Dance on March 23 will involve a dinner hosted by 8th grade families from which proceeds will go towards our graduation and the Bingo Night is scheduled for April 27.
Thing 3: SF Trip
On Friday I had the kids use paper maps to get a basic overview of San Francisco and this weekend they should each doing research and adding three ideas to a chart. Please take a look with them and know that your suggestions are welcome -- I want this SF trip to be much more than a tour of the usual hotspots. Also, if any of you dads want to chaperone, we could use you.
That is all for this email. Thanks for reading and reply you if you have a moment.
Chris
