Word Roots

In this activity you will be looking at a few big lists of Latin and Greek word roots, their meanings, and some example words. After that you will be creating a few of your own, defining them, and using them in a sentence.

Step 1: Browse any/all of the following websites and read examples.

  4. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greek_and_Latin_roots_in_English

Step 2: Take a look at the list of student-created words shown below

Step 3: Choose one or two of your favorite roots and then create non-existent words that actually make sense

Step 4: Enter those words into the form at the bottom of this page

Step 5: Repeat until you have submitted at least the required number of words

Step 6: On vocabulary slide 19, write your favorite word (that you created), its definition, roots, and a picture that represents it.
