Egg buoyancy
dang not fire for once
dang not fire for once
Me, Luka, and Liam are in a team to do an experiment for the parents evening of the first semester of 2025, since combustion (fire/blowing things up) experiences were not allowed this time we choose to do an egg buoyancy experiment form a cool YouTube video that Luka found . look below↓
wowie we gotta do this now
Here is the equipment and method that I wrote up at the time (because my computer was dead and none of our data or wifi was working cuz school wifi crap)
also during this we ran down to new world to get eggs (we forgot to remind Rosemary to get them) and did parkour jumping fences and more jumping and stuff and I bought the eggs (⌐■_■) and nearly dropped them immediately (◉Θ◉) but I diiiddn't ahehehe (⌐■_■)✨✨✨
also here is the Planning page Amelia and Ethan work very hard to provide to us (thankth)their holding me at gunpoint HELP
DAY 1
we ran and got eggs and a nice big clear big container and filled it with tap water and then Luka held the egg in there while we mixed up the salt with the water so it didn't break and I put in handfuls of salt (yes handfuls (I had fun)). Then Isaac said that Ethan did the experiment in primary school and it was a TON of salt so uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
then we had to pack up before the egg even went off the containers base ._.
DAY 2
we are all sorted and so started immediately with the big clear container and the eggs and the iodized salt we filled up the container and put the egg in and did what we did last week of handful after handful of slat until the egg was bouncing in slow motion WE'RE SO CLOSE but then we told liam one more handful and he put in too and then the egg started floating >:{{{{{{{ (reminder that when too much water egg sink and too much salt egg float)
then i don't know who decided or why (I think it was luka) he put the egg and water in a smaller beaker and it was SO MUCH easier to fine tune the water to egg ratios and then WE DID ITTTT (I TOTALLY FORGOT TO TAKE PICTURES NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO) and we were basking in our victory when ms quiad came up and was like WOW (like anyone would be like) and said so what the ratio and did you measure how much salt and water?
...
dangit
so I started do that in a separate beaker starting from the start while luka played around with the perfect egg and fine tuned it further (it was slighting below where it should be) and I stated by doing 400ml (that were the top line or the beaker was) and 100g or salt because that seems resonable cuz we were added handfuls of salt before but god DAMN i undereitamated how much salt that was and has to start over
I did the starting point of 400ml again but this time only added 30g or salt and I got so close already, the egg was slowmo bouncing and then I added 5g of salt to even it out and THAT was too much and the egg was floating a lot
then we had to pack up and I wrote down 400ml and 30g for my ratio so far and next week I will try 31g in the water (⌐■_■)
DAY 3
THE 30g WAS WAY TOO MUCH
we did that and the egg went straight to the top so we tried 20g, it floated up again, then 15g, then 10g, then 5g, until 1g was enough to make it go moon walking >:V
DAY 4
this time Luka was dead so it was just me and Liam, Liam's been doing an EGGperient on the side the egg in vinegar and it was nearly ready but needed another week for the shell to fully dissolve.
for the egg buoyancy thing i was really close, this time starting with 1g of salt until I had around 435ml of water with 10g salt and a couple sprinkles of salt and I got SO close it was hovering in the middle for while until either going up or down, I spent the whole session tweaking it and fine tuning but it didn't work, when it was in the middle though I pick up the beaker fast and sort of shock it up and down just so the water didn't spill and the egg didn't move it just slowing sunk or floated down depending on whether I had added a small amount of water or salt beforehand.
I've decided that since the thing it getting closer and we are still in the first stage of our egg buoyancy trying to get it buoyant, I think it would be better to have lot of easy to make EGGperients set up so people can look and we can talk about them and some can be 'played' with like the vinegar egg and buoyancy egg (just moving them around) I am wating to see i Luka agrees because liam seem happy just getting to do cool egg stuff and not just standing around tweaking the ratio of salt and water which is fair cuz i'm getting sick of it not working >:V
