Today we were testing out experiments for LUMA. We were seeing what we could do without any guidance. First, my partner and I did Hydrogen balloons. We don't have hydrogen taps at Science Buskers so we have to make it. If you put tinfoil inside a flask with sodium hydroxide it creates hydrogen gas. We filled a balloon with hydrogen and lit it on fire. It exploded!

We are practicing science experiments for LUMA Festival. Our group practiced flaming colours. When you add the chemical powder to the methylated sprits it changes the flames colour. Copper made the flame turn blue-green and Lithium turned the flame red. We didn't mix the chemical with the meth at first but we decided it would last longer if we did. We also poured both colours onto the aluminium foil which turned the flame both colours. This was so cool to do and watch the flame change colour!

All the year nines had an experiment on who could make a spaghetti swing. Personally, I think mine was the best because it was the most sturdy and I could swing it all the way around. I made my structure with 2 spaghetti pieces on each post thing so that it would stand better. Which worked well. With plasticine I made a loop to help it swing.

This was my first experiment in Science Buskers. We made pink oobleck! I didn't get a photo so this will have to do.
When we started to mix the water and cornstarch together it started to form. The ratio is 1 part water to 2 parts flour. Playing with the oobleck was so much fun. It was spilling everywhere. When you punched the oobleck it went hard but once you left it, it turned to goop. I got the oobleck all over me and my hair!
We put the oobleck in balloons to make stress balls which failed. We then put the oobleck on a speaker and it started to dance! It didn't look like it was going high but if you put it in slow-mo you could see how high it really went.
