Materials - Powered sugar/caster sugar, baking powder, sand, tote tray, matches and ethanol
Rations - 1:4 1 being baking soda and 4 being sugar (says the internet)
Procedure - Sprinkle the sand over tote tray. pour the mixture of the sugar and baking soda in a small volcano shaped pile. Pour ethanol over the sugar baking soda mixture. Light the white power straight after poring the ethanol on.
Using powered sugar instead of regular sugar increase the speed and size of the formation.

What happened today
3 parts icing sugar and 1 part baking sugar- the fastest on that we have done so far for starting and the longest lasting one
2 parts sugar and 2 parts baking sugar -
The zippo fluid works - next time we are going to light the sand with ethanol first to make it hot then do the experiment

pH in flowers
Findings
neutral - the stem of the flower turned yellow and the inside of the flower turned a light purple. It drank all of the solution as it is essentially salty water. The stem is also completely dried up. The petals went towards the middle.
Acid - the stem of the flower was red and the inside was red as well. The flower drank up most of the solution which shows us that they like acidic solutions. The petals are squished in. The stem still have some fluid in it.
Base/alkaline - the stem of the flower turned blue and the inside of the flower turned purple. the flower didn't drink much of the solution which tells us that they don't like alkaline. The stem still has fluid. The petals are still kind of spread out.
Flowers in acid
With the rising levels of CO2 in the world flowers will cope. However in places where the soil is more base, it won't survive as well. The stem still has fluid.
Questions
If we keep the flowers in the solution over time will the flower drink the rest of the solution? This will show us if the flower will over time drink the water.
