Zinc and Sulfur

Zinc & sulfur:

Zinc (in powder form), sulfur (in powder form), a few test tubes, thong, spatula, bunsen burner, matches/lighter. 

Measurements:  

1 spoon sulfur powder, 1 ½ spoons zinc powder 

Zn(s)  + S(s)  ——> ZnS(s)

• Sulfur is used in fireworks 

• The odor is sulfur dioxide 

• Exothermic reaction meaning that the zinc and sulfur releases its energy by light and  heat when burned.
