To Continue on our theme of metals, We have this lovely apparatus called Newton’s Cradle named after Sir Isaac Newton. Newton was a force of nature in his fields of Physics and Mathematics during the 1600s/1700s and one of Newton’s most well-known scientific contributions was his laws of motion. Newton's cradle is an excellent visual representation of his third law which states that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. This means that for any starting position of the balls, there will be a predictable outcome.
Do a single ball drop then a triple then some other ones that you think are cool all the while explaining that because three balls were dropped three will go up etc
Let some of the balls stop moving by themselves
However as you can see the balls have stopped moving, now Newton’s 3rd law states that there must be an exactly equal and opposite reaction occurring so why did it stop? Well, we can look at his first law here to help us. The 1st law states that an object at rest remains at rest, and an object in motion remains in motion unless acted on by another force. This tells us that something else is working against the movement of the ball. Of course, this outside force is just air resistance, but there is also energy being lost in other places, like the sound and heat created by the collisions, and the imperfect materials used to make the cradle.
Metals, our theme, works perfectly for newtons cradle because they are great at transferring energy through them because of their density and regular atomic structure whereas something else like plastic or wood doesn't have these properties and therefore doesn't work as well
Some sort of transition whatever feels good for you
